Vogorno is a former municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The village is located above Lago di Vogorno, a reservoir formed by the Verzasca Dam. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca. Geography Vogorno had an area, , of . Of this area, or 1.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 59.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 1.3% is settled (buildings or roads), or 3.0% is either rivers or lakes and or 22.8% is unproductive land. Verzasca is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca. History Following a vote organized on 10 June 2018 in seven municipalities of the Valle Verzasca, the municipality was to be officially created on 5 April 2020 by the merger of seven municipalities of the Valle Verzasca, namely Brione, Corippo, Frasco, Lavertezzo Valle (locality of Lavertezzo), Sonogno, Vogorno and Gerra Valle (locality of Cugnasco-Gerra). Corippo
Corippo is a former municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. With a population of just 12 inhabitants in July 2018, and dropping to 9 by December 2019 it was the smallest municipality in Switzerland. Despite this, it possessed the trappings of communities many times its size: an official website (), its own coat of arms, a village church, a restaurant, and a mayor who led a town council consisting of three local citizens. The village had maintained its status as an independent entity since its incorporation in 1822. However, on 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca with a combined population of then 640. Mergoscia
Mergoscia is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Mergoscia is first mentioned in 1061 as ''Mergossia'', though this comes from a copy of the original from 1402. In 1300 it was mentioned as ''Mergosia''. In 1313, Mergoscia split from the '' Vicinanza'' of Minusio and Brione. However, the majority of the common property of the former ''vicinanza'' remained undivided until 1952. To avoid paying a tithe to the nobles of Locarno, at the beginning of the 15th Century, the village split from Locarno to join the valley community of Verzasca and Valle Maggia. The village church, split away from the mother church of Locarno, S. Vittore in Muralto, in 1591. Brione (Verzasca) is former a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca. Frasco
Frasco is a former municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 17 October 2020 the former municipalities of Vogorno, Sonogno, Corippo, Brione (Verzasca) and Frasco merged to form the new municipality of Verzasca. Lavertezzo
Lavertezzo is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Lavertezzo is first mentioned in 1327 as ''Laverteze''. In the Middle Ages, Lavertezzo was a ''Squadra'' of the '' Vicinanza'' of Verzasca. For centuries, the people lived in the summer months in the Verzasca valley and migrated in the winter, with their cattle, to the lower valleys. After the dissolution of Terricciole in 1920, a shared territory between Locarno, Minusio and Mergoscia, the settlement of Riazzino was allocated to Lavertezzo. Preonzo
Preonzo is a former municipality in the district of Bellinzona in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 2 April 2017, the former municipalities of Camorino, Claro, Giubiasco, Gnosca, Gorduno, Moleno, Monte Carasso, Pianezzo, Sant'Antonio and Sementina merged into the municipality of Bellinzona. Gordola
Gordola () is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Gordola is first mentioned in 1200 as ''Gordora''. In 1219, it was mentioned as ''Gordolla/e''. Gordola was located near major roads throughout its history. During the Middle Ages, the village was on the hills as the valley floor was covered in swamps.
