Vladimir Frolov (general)
Vladimir Petrovich Frolov (russian: Владимир Петрович Фролов; 1967 – 10 March 2022) was a Russian major general who died during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Biography Vladimir Frolov was born into the family of a World War II veteran. He was promoted to the rank of major general by Presidential Decree No. 595 of Vladimir Putin on 12 December 2019. The 8th Guards Combined Arms Army, whose deputy commander was Frolov, was actively engaged in the siege of Mariupol. According to Tsargrad TV, he died no earlier than 11 April 2022. His death was announced by Russian officials on 16 April 2022. The same day, his burial was held with military honours at Saint Petersburg's Serafimovskoe Cemetery after a funeral service in Novocherkassk's Ascension Cathedral. Major General
Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. Serafimovskoe Cemetery
Serafimovskoe Cemetery (russian: Серафимовское кладбище) is a historic cemetery in northwestern Saint Petersburg, in Primorsky District. It was established to meet the need for the growing population in the early twentieth century. The first burial took place in 1905, and the cemetery church, the , was consecrated in 1907. The cemetery was primarily a burial place for the poor, until the Second World War. During the siege of Leningrad, from 1941 to 1944, it was one of the main sites for burying those who were killed, or died of cold or starvation. At least 100,000 people were buried during this period, mostly in mass graves. The cemetery expanded after the war, and today covers 59 hectares. A high number of Russian generals have been killed during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. As of 11 July 2022, Ukrainian sources claimed that 14 Russian generals had been killed during the invasion. Although some claims were rebutted, the loss of even two general officers is rare. The scale of these losses is unprecedented since World War II. This has been attributed to Russian senior commanders going to the field to address "difficulties in command and control" and "faltering Russian performance on the front line", insecure communication by Russian forces, and United States military intelligence that allowed the Ukrainians to target Russian officers. Alexander Dmitryevich Beglov ( rus, Алекса́ндр Дми́триевич Бегло́в, p=ɐlʲɪkˈsandr ˈdmʲitrʲɪjɪvʲɪdʑ bʲɪˈɡlof; born 19 May 1956) is a Russian politician. Novocherkassk Cathedral
The Ascension Cathedral (Вознесенский собор) is a Russian Orthodox church in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, Russia. It used to be one of the largest churches of the Russian Empire and the main church of the Don Host Province. The five-domed building, which stands 75 meters tall, is a notable example of the Russian Neo-Byzantine architecture. It was erected between 1891 and 1904 on the site of an earlier church. The first church on the site was built to Luigi Rusca's designs. It collapsed in 1846. A replacement church collapsed 17 years later.
