Vladimir Baños Chacón (Guayacón) (born January 17, 1983) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher with the Padule Baseball Club of the Italian Baseball League. Baños played for the Cuba national baseball team at the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, 2007 World Port Tournament, 2007 Baseball World Cup, 2013 World Port Tournament and 2017 World Baseball Classic. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. 2013 World Port Tournament
The 2013 World Port Tournament was an international baseball competition held at the DOOR Neptunus Familiestadion in Rotterdam, the Netherlands from June 30 through July 7, 2013. It was the 12th edition of the tournament and featured teams from Cuba, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Curacao. Cuba won the tournament with a 5–2 win–loss record, followed by the Netherlands (4–3), Taiwan (3–3) and Curacao (1–5). The 2017 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an international professional baseball competition, composed of 16 competing nations, held from March 6 to March 22, 2017. It was the fourth iteration of the World Baseball Classic. The first-round hosts were Seoul, Tokyo, Miami, and Zapopan. The second-round hosts were Tokyo and San Diego, and the championship round was played in Los Angeles. Twelve of the 16 competing nations qualified based on their performance during the first round of the 2013 tournament; the remaining four nations were the winners of four qualification tournaments that took place in February, March, and September 2016. The 2007 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 37th international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS.
