Vladan Vasilijević
Vladan Vasilijević was one of the most prominent Yugoslav specialists in criminal law in the 1980s. Throughout the 1990s he was engaged as a human rights lawyer promoting a democratic civil society and the rule of law in Serbia. In December 1989 he was one of the members of the Founding Committee of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was the first non-communist opposition party in Serbia. Later he left the Democratic Party to join the Serbian Liberal Party led by Kosta Čavoški and Nikola Milošević. The party was officially founded on 3 February 1990 by a group of Serbian intellectuals as a revival of the original Yugoslav Democratic Party. It was one of the main opposition parties to the presidency of Slobodan Milošević during the 1990s. Democratic Party joined the Democratic Opposition of Serbia coalition in 2000,Flags of the World''Democratic Opposition of Serbia'' Tomislav Todorović, 22 November 2005 and became part of the new coalition government after the 2000 parliamentary election. The Serbian Liberal Party ( sr-cyr, Српска либерална странка, Srpska liberalna stranka; abbr. СЛС or SLS) was a classical-liberal, nationalist and monarchist political party in Serbia. Background The Democratic Party (DS) Initiative Committee announced their intention to constitute themselves as a new political party in late 1989. The party sought to revive the inter-war party of the same name and to present itself as having a 'civic' and 'centrist' identity. However, the DS was characterised by a number of heterogeneous groups and strands of opinion. An element within the party was opposed in certain respects to the orientation that prominent figures and former ''Praxis'' group members Dragoljub Mićunović and Zoran Đinđić advocated. Kosta Čavoški (Serbian Cyrillic: Коста Чавошки; born 26 October 1941) is a professor at the University of Belgrade's Law School. He is an outspoken critic of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Biography He was one of the thirteen initiators of the re-establishment of the Democratic Party in Serbia on 11 December 1989. He was one of the leading members of the Founding Committee of the Democratic Party who drafted the first party political program of the Democratic Party published as the Letter of Intent (Pismo o namerama) on 18 January 1990. However, within a year he left the Democratic Party along with Professor Nikola Milošević and others to found his own political entity, the Serbian Liberal Party. Nikola Milošević (politician)
Nikola Milošević, PhD (Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Милошевић; 17 April 1929 – 24 January 2007) was a Serbian writer, political philosopher, literary critic, and politician. He graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philosophy. He was professor of Literary Theory at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Philology since 1969. He became a correspondent member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1983 and a full member in 1994. He was president of the Miloš Crnjanski Endowment in Belgrade. Political and intellectual activity In 1968 during a big student revolt in the streets of Belgrade, he daily criticized official press coverage of the protests in front of hundreds of protesting students.
