Biscayne (ethnonym)
Until the early 19th century the word Biscayne (= Biscayan) was a demonym and ethnonym referring somewhat ambiguously to the Basque Country (greater region), Basque Country (usually excluding Navarre), or more often the Basque people in general. For example, Saint Francis Xavier identified himself as a "Biscayne" — or ''vizcaino'', as he wrote it – meaning a Basque. Whaling crews from Labourd in the north Atlantic are also referred to as Biscaynes in the 16–18th century. Luis Vizcaíno Árias (born August 6, 1974) is a Dominican Republic former professional baseball pitcher. He played for the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs, and Cleveland Indians in his career. Career Vizcaíno was signed by the Oakland Athletics as an amateur free agent in . Sebastián Vizcaíno (1548–1624) was a Spanish soldier, entrepreneur, explorer, and diplomat whose varied roles took him to New Spain, the Baja California peninsula, the California coast and Asia. Early career Vizcaíno was born in 1548, in Extremadura, Crown of Castile (Spain). He saw military service in the Spanish invasion of Portugal during 1580–1583. Coming to New Spain in 1583, he sailed as a merchant on a Manila galleon to the Spanish East Indies in 1586–1589. In 1587, he was on board the ''Santa Ana'' as one of the merchants when Thomas Cavendish captured it, robbing him and others of their personal cargoes of gold. Roberto Vizcaíno Mallol (25 April 1957 – 11 December 2016) was a professional tennis player from Spain. Biography Vizcaíno took part in the 1980 French Open and was beaten in the opening round by Yannick Noah. He also played in the mixed doubles, with Silvana Urroz. They made it into the second round, where they lost to Steve Krulevitz and Lucia Romanov. Also in 1980, Vizcaino was a semi-finalist at the British Hard Court Championships in Bournemouth, securing wins over John Whiteford, Stefan Simonsson and Kjell Johansson. Vizcaino defeated Antonio Zugarelli in the first round of the 1981 French Open, but was unable to get past Tony Giammalva in the second round. Panda (commonly stylized as PXNDX) was a Mexican rock band formed in Monterrey, Nuevo León in 1996 as part of the musical movement known as Avanzada Regia. The last line-up consisted in singer José Madero, drummer Jorge Vásquez, lead guitarist/Backup vocals Arturo Arredondo and bassist Ricardo Treviño.
