Viy (2014 Film)
''Viy 3D'' (russian: Вий, internationally known as ''Forbidden Empire'', and in the UK as ''Forbidden Kingdom'') is a 2014 fantasy film produced by Russian and Ukraine Film Group and Marins Group Entertainment and loosely based on the Nikolai Gogol story of the same name. The film was released in cinemas in Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan on 30 January 2014, in the United States on 22 May 2015 and in the United Kingdom on 1 June 2015. The film is directed by Oleg Stepchenko, based on the first manuscript of Nikolai Gogol. The film has been in production since December 2005 and stopped several times due to lack of funding. In October 2012, the filming was completed. ''Viy'' was a huge commercial success, even breaking a record for opening weekend in Russia, but was met with mixed reviews. "Viy" ( rus, Вий, p=ˈvʲij), also translated as "The Viy", is a horror novella by the Ukrainian-born Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, first published in volume 2 of his collection of tales entitled ''Mirgorod'' (1835). Despite an author's note alluding to folklore, the title character is generally conceded to be wholly Gogol's invention. Plot summary Students at Bratsky Monastery in Kyiv break for summer vacation. The impoverished students must find food and lodging along their journey home. They stray from the high road at the sight of a farmstead, hoping its cottagers would provide them. Andrey Igorevich Smolyakov (russian: Андре́й И́горевич Смоляко́в; born 24 November 1958) is a Soviet and Russian actor and director. He is known for '' Vysotskiy. Spasibo, chto zhivoy'' (2011), ''Stalingrad'', and '' Forbidden Empire''. Life Smolyakov was born in Podolsk, Moscow Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union as Andrey Igorevich Smolyakov. For three years he studied at Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, but switched. In 1980 he graduated from the State Institute of Theatre Arts in a workshop under supervision of Oleg Tabakov. ''Sleepy Hollow'' is a 1999 gothic supernatural horror film directed by Tim Burton. Sychrov Castle
Sychrov Castle can be found near the village Sychrov in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It is a unique example of Neo-Gothic castle architecture from the second half of the 19th century. A large park surrounds the castle. History Since the 15th century, a fort existed in the place now occupied by Sychrov. Guillaume Le Vasseur De Beauplan
Guillaume Levasseur de Beauplan (c. 1600 – 6 December 1673) or William le Vasseur de Beauplan was a French-Polish cartographer, engineer and architect. Beauplan served as artillery captain for the army of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland between 1630 and 1647 or 1648. He was sent to Ukraine where he served under Stanisław Koniecpolski in 1637–38. He used his architectural skills while in the military. In 1639, he was involved in the rebuilding of the Kodak Fortress. He also built a fortress at Bar, worked on Brody Castle, and structures in Kremenchuk. In 1639, Beauplan created the first "descriptive" map of Ukraine. He created a map of Ukraine in 1648 that had detailed border information. By 1654 he was working in Danzig. He created a map with a scale of 1:452,000 and an additional map scaled at 1:1,800,000. ''Taras Bulba'' (russian: Тарас Бульба) is a historical drama film, based on the novel ''Taras Bulba'' by Nikolai Gogol. The movie was filmed on different locations in Ukraine such as Zaporizhia, Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilsky as well as in Poland. The official release was rescheduled several times; at first for the spring of 2008 but was finally released on April 2, 2009, to coincide with Gogol's bicentennial. The author's edition of 1842, expanded and rewritten, and considered more pro-Russian, was used for the film (this also being the text that is familiar to most readers).
