Viviani's Theorem
Viviani's theorem, named after Vincenzo Viviani, states that the sum of the distances from ''any'' interior point to the sides of an equilateral triangle equals the length of the triangle's altitude. It is a theorem commonly employed in various math competitions, secondary school mathematics examinations, and has wide applicability to many problems in the real world. Proof This proof depends on the readily-proved proposition that the area of a triangle is half its base times its height—that is, half the product of one side with the altitude from that side.Claudi Alsina, Roger B. Nelsen: ''Charming Proofs: A Journey Into Elegant Mathematics''. MAA 2010, , p. 96 () Let ABC be an equilateral triangle whose height is ''h'' and whose side is ''a''. Let P be any point inside the triangle, and ''u, s, t'' the distances of P from the sides. Draw a line from P to each of A, B, and C, forming three triangles PAB, PBC, and PCA. Now, the areas of these triangles are \frac, \frac, ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Viviani's Curve
In mathematics, Viviani's curve, also known as Viviani's window, is a figure eight shaped space curve named after the Italian mathematician Vincenzo Viviani. It is the intersection of a sphere with a cylinder that is tangent to the sphere and passes through two poles (a diameter) of the sphere (see diagram). Before Viviani this curve was studied by Simon de La Loubère and Gilles de Roberval. The orthographic projection of Viviani's curve onto a plane perpendicular to the line through the crossing point and the sphere center is the lemniscate of Gerono, while the stereographic projection is a hyperbola or the lemniscate of Bernoulli, depending on which point on the same line is used to project. . In 1692 Viviani solved the following task: Cut out of a half sphere (radius r) two windows, such that the remaining surface (of the half sphere) can be ''squared'', i.e. a square with the same area can be constructed using only compasses and ruler. His solution has an area of 4r^2 (se ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Viviani (crater)
Viviani is a small lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It was named after Italian mathematician and physicist Vincenzo Viviani. It is located due west of the prominent crater King King is the title given to a male monarch in a variety of contexts. The female equivalent is queen, which title is also given to the consort of a king. *In the context of prehistory, antiquity and contemporary indigenous peoples, the tit ..., and just to the southeast of Katchalsky. This is a roughly circular, bowl-shaped crater with a well-defined rim edge and an inner wall that is wider along the southeastern half. A small crater has cut into the southern rim edge, and another small crater is attached to the exterior along the east. The inner walls are simple slopes that run down to the relatively level and featureless floor. Satellite craters By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is ... Square René Viviani
In Euclidean geometry, a square is a regular quadrilateral, which means that it has four equal sides and four equal angles (90- degree angles, π/2 radian angles, or right angles). It can also be defined as a rectangle with two equal-length adjacent sides. It is the only regular polygon whose internal angle, central angle, and external angle are all equal (90°), and whose diagonals are all equal in length. A square with vertices ''ABCD'' would be denoted . Characterizations A convex quadrilateral is a square if and only if it is any one of the following: * A rectangle with two adjacent equal sides * A rhombus with a right vertex angle * A rhombus with all angles equal * A parallelogram with one right vertex angle and two adjacent equal sides * A quadrilateral with four equal sides and four right angles * A quadrilateral where the diagonals are equal, and are the perpendicular bisectors of each other (i.e., a rhombus with equal diagonals) * A convex quadrilateral with succ ... René Viviani
Jean Raphaël Adrien René Viviani (; 8 November 18637 September 1925) was a French politician of the Third Republic, who served as Prime Minister for the first year of World War I. He was born in Sidi Bel Abbès, in French Algeria. In France he sought to protect the rights of socialists and trade union workers. Biography René Viviani was born in Algeria in a family of Italian immigrants. His parliamentary career began in 1893, when he was elected deputy of the fifth ward in Paris. He retained this office until 1902, when he failed to be reelected, but four years later he was elected deputy of the Department of Creuse. In the same year he entered the cabinet of Georges Clemenceau. At an early age he associated himself with the Socialist party, soon becoming one of its most brilliant orators and prominent leaders. When the party was reorganized in 1904 into the Unified Socialist party, Viviani, like fellow Socialist Aristide Briand, stayed outside, and thenceforth called ... Raffaele Viviani
Raffaele Viviani (10 January 1888 in Castellammare di Stabia, Province of Naples – 22 March 1950) was an Italian author, playwright, actor and musician. Viviani belongs to the turn-of-the-century school of Literary realism, realism in Italian literature, and his works touch on seamier elements of the lives of the poor in Naples of that period, such as petty crime and prostitution. Critics have termed Viviani "an autodidact realist," meaning that he acquired his skills through personal experience and not academic education. Viviani appeared at age 4 on the stage, and by age 20 he had acquired a solid nationwide reputation as an actor and playwright. He also played in Budapest, Paris, Tripoli, Libya, Tripoli, and throughout South America during his career. His plays are in the "anti-Luigi Pirandello, Pirandello" style, less concerned with the psychology of people than with the lives they lead. Antonio Viviani
Antonio Viviani (1560–1620) was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. He was also called ''il Sordo di Urbino'' ("the Deaf of Urbino"), because of his self-absorption while painting frescoes. He was born in Urbino, and there became a follower of Federigo Barocci, said to have been his uncle. He left some pictures at Urbino, in the style of Barocci, various frescoes in Rome, and a vast work in the ''Chiesa de' Filippini'' (San Pietro in Valle) at Fano (1618–1620), consisting of scenes from the lives of those apostles to whom the church was dedicated. These works are now in the Pinacoteca Civica of Fano. He also painted for the Oratory of the Santissima Annunziata in Urbino. In Rome, he is said to have gravitated to the syle of Cesare D'Arpino. After 1585, he traveled to Rome, where he helped fresco the Vatican library and the Scala Santa (1585–1590). He also helped fresco for the loggia of the Palazzo Altemps and for the Palazzo Barberini; the latter ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
