Vivian Cobbe
Vivian G. Cobbe (born 26 January 1934) is an Irish retired hurler who played at club level with St. Patrick's, at inter-county level with Limerick and at inter-provincial level with Munster. Career From the St. Patrick's club, Cobbe first came to prominence on the inter-county scene with the Limerick junior team that overcame London to win the 1955 All-Ireland Junior Championship. Promotion to the senior side followed, with Cobbe lining out in the forwards when Limerick surprised Clare to win the 1955 Munster Championship. The team, labelled "Mackey's Greyhounds" after their trainer Mick Mackey, were subsequently beaten by eventual champions Wexford in the All-Ireland semi-final. Cobbe continued playing for Limerick until the 1960s, by which time he had also won two Railway Cup medals with Munster. St Patrick's GAA (Limerick)
St Patrick's GAA ( Irish: ''CLG Naomh Pádraig'') is a Gaelic Athletic Association located in the Rhebogue area of Limerick City, Ireland. The club fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located in the Rhebogue area on the banks of the River Shannon, St Patrick's GAA Club is one of the oldest clubs in Limerick, having been founded in 1886. It remains the oldest-surviving city club. The club enjoyed Gaelic football success in its early years, winning back-to-back Limerick SFC titles at the expense of Commercials in 1890 and 1891. Half a century passed before the club enjoyed what could arguably be described as its most successful period. Further Limerick SFC titles were won in 1943, 1944 and 1954, while St Patrick's also claimed consecutive Limerick SHC titles in 1949 and 1950. Wexford GAA
The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Loch Garman) or Wexford GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wexford. The 1957 Railway Cup Hurling Championship was the 31st series of the inter-provincial hurling Railway Cup. Four matches were played between 17 February 1957 and 17 March 1957 to decide the title. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Leinster entered the championship as the defending champions. On 17 March 1957, Munster won the Railway Cup after a 5–07 to 2–05 defeat of Leinster in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Munster Junior Hurling Championship
The Munster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Munster Council. The winners of the Munster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition has been suspended and is unlikely to be re-established. In the years between 1961 and 1973 Kerry represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. The Munster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Munster GAA, Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Mick Mackey
Michael John Mackey (12 July 1912 – 13 September 1982) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Limerick county team. Born in Castleconnell, County Limerick, Mackey first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Limerick minor team, before later lining out with the junior side. He made his senior debut in the 1930–31 National League. Mackey went on to play a key part for Limerick during a golden age for the team, and won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and five National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions, Mackey also captained the team to two All-Ireland victories. His brother, John Mackey, also shared in these victories while his father, "Tyler" Mackey was a one-time All-Ireland runner-up with Limerick.
