Vitulano
Vitulano is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 50 km northeast of Naples and about 12 km northwest of Benevento. Vitulano borders the following municipalities: Campoli del Monte Taburno, Castelpoto, Cautano, Foglianise, Frasso Telesino, Guardia Sanframondi, Paupisi, San Lorenzo Maggiore, Solopaca, Torrecuso. Main sights Santissima Annunziata convent According to tradition, the convent was founded in 1440 by Saint Bernardino of Siena. It was part of a Foglianise parish until 1852, when it was incorporated in the ''comune'' of Vitulano. In 1884 the cemetery of the latter municipality was installed in the garden of the church. In July 1991 pope John Paul II gave it the title of minor basilica. Santa Maria In Gruptis
Santa Maria in Gruptis is a former abbey located in the ''comune'' of Vitulano, in the Campania region of Southern Italy. Founded in the 10th century and used by several monastic orders, it was deconsecrated in 1705, and is currently in ruins. Name The name "in gruptis" refers to the karst caves in the area, which were used to gather and distribute water to the abbey. The oldest recorded name was ''Santa Maria di Monte Drago'', in reference to the mountain where the abbey is located. The two names were used in the 12th century with inconsistent spellings, such as "Santa Maria di Monte Drocho", "Santa Maria in Cripta", "Santa Maria de la Grocta". In a 1545 decree by the then abbot Blasio Sellaroli the abbey was named ''Santa Maria dello Vallo di Vitulano'' ("Saint Mary of the Valley of Vitulano"). San Lorenzo Maggiore
San Lorenzo Maggiore is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Benevento, in the Campania region of southern Italy. It is a member of the Titerno Local Action Group. Geography San Lorenzo Maggiore covers 16.17 square kilometers of hilly land and is bordered by San Lupo, Ponte, Paupisi, Vitulano, and Guardia Sanframondi. The Calore Irpino River passes nearby. The town is just north of Mount Taburno and south of the Matese mountains, one of the largest ranges of the Apennines.
