Vistula Spit Landscape Park
Vistula Spit Landscape Park (''Park Krajobrazowy Mierzeja Wiślana'') is a protected area ( Landscape Park) on the Vistula Spit in northern Poland. The Park was established in 1985, and covers an area of . The Park lies within Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Nowy Dwór Gdański County (Krynica Morska, Gmina Sztutowo). Within the Landscape Park are two nature reserves. The park is included in the Natura 2000 network (entirely in the habitat area and partly in the bird one) and in the HELCOM Marine Protected Areas Baltic System of Protected Areas as MPA No. 85 Vistula Lagoon and Mierzeja Wislana. Pomeranian Voivodeship
Pomeranian Voivodeship, Pomorskie Region, or Pomerania Province (Polish: ''Województwo pomorskie'' ; ( Kashubian: ''Pòmòrsczé wòjewództwò'' ), is a voivodeship, or province, in northwestern Poland. The provincial capital is Gdańsk. The voivodeship was established on January 1, 1999, out of the former voivodeships of Gdańsk, Elbląg and Słupsk, pursuant to the Polish local government reforms adopted in 1997. Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. Vistula Spit
The Vistula Spit ( pl, Mierzeja Wiślana; russian: Балтийская коса; german: Frische Nehrung) is an aeolian sand spit, or peninsular stretch of land that separates Vistula Lagoon from Gdańsk Bay, in the Baltic Sea, with its tip separated from the mainland by the Strait of Baltiysk. The border between Poland (Pomeranian Voivodeship) and Kaliningrad Oblast, a semi-exclave of Russia, bisects it, politically dividing the spit in half between the two countries. The westernmost geographical point of Russia is located on the Vistula Spit. The Polish part contains a number of tourist resorts, incorporated administratively as the town of Krynica Morska. Krynica Morska
Krynica Morska (german: Kahlberg) is a town and coextensive municipality (''gmina'') on the Vistula Spit in northern Poland with 1,364 inhabitants as of 2006. It has been a part of Nowy Dwór Gdański County in Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999; previously it was in Elbląg Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998. Overview Before 1793 the area was part of the Kingdom of Poland; from 1793-1945 Prussia (within Germany from 1871). The village was known as ''Kahlberg'' during that time. It was administered by the city of Danzig (now Gdańsk) until 1842, and afterwards by the city of Elbing (now Elbląg). The settlement was first mentioned in 1424 and became a summer resort around 1840.
