Visbek (Old Saxon ''Fiscbechi'') is a municipality in the district of Vechta, in the Oldenburg Münsterland region of the state of Lower Saxony, Germany. Location and municipal subdivisions Visbek lies on the North German Plain, approximately 12 km to the north of Vechta. The municipality consists of the village of Visbek itself, together with 13 surrounding hamlets (german: Bauerschaften), viz. Astrup, Bonrechtern, Endel, Erlte, Hagstedt, Halter/ Meyerhöfen, Hogenbögen, Norddöllen, Rechterfeld, Varnhorn/ Siedenbögen and Wöstendöllen. Landkreis Vechta
Vechta () is a district (''Landkreis'') in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Oldenburg, Diepholz, Osnabrück and Cloppenburg. History In the 13th century the region was acquired by the bishop of Münster and became a part of his clerical state. When the clerical states of Germany were dissolved in 1803, Vechta was given to Oldenburg, while clerically still belonging to Münster, hence the name Oldenburger Münsterland is also used for the region (together with Cloppenburg district). The present district was established in 1945 and became a part of the newly founded state of Lower Saxony. In terms of political history, both Vechta and neighbouring Cloppenburg are, as one of the few historically catholic districts in an otherwise majority-protestant state, some of the most conservative areas in Germany. Cloppenburg is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. Wildeshausen
Wildeshausen (Low Saxon: ''Wilshusen'') is a town and the capital of the Oldenburg district in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated by the river Hunte. History In 1648, Wildeshausen and the surrounding district was ceded to Sweden, in the Peace of Westphalia, where it was given as a fief to Gustav Gustavsson af Vasaborg, an illegitimate son of King Gustavus Adolphus, as a part of the Swedish Dominion of Bremen-Verden.
