VirtualAcorn
VirtualAcorn is the brand name of several commercial emulators of Acorn Computers computer hardware platforms. Development VirtualAcorn is developed by Graeme Barnes and Aaron Timbrell. It is a commercial version of the freeware emulator Red Squirrel, developed by Barnes. In 2004, supply of the software was moved to Timbrell's company 3QD Developments. Virtual A5000 Virtual A5000 is an emulator of Acorn Computers A5000 computer. It included a copy of RISC OS 3.11. Virtual A5000 was released at BETT 2002 and stopped shipping in 2004. RISC OS
RISC OS is a computer operating system originally designed by Acorn Computers Ltd in Cambridge, England. First released in 1987, it was designed to run on the ARM chipset, which Acorn had designed concurrently for use in its new line of Archimedes personal computers. RISC OS takes its name from the reduced instruction set computer (RISC) architecture it supports. Between 1987 and 1998, RISC OS was included in every ARM-based Acorn computer model, including the Acorn Archimedes line, Acorn's R line (with RISC iX as a dual-boot option), RiscPC, A7000, and prototype models such as the Acorn NewsPad and Phoebe computer. RISCOS Ltd. (also referred to as ROL) was a limited company engaged in computer software and IT consulting. It licensed the rights to continue the development of and to distribute it for desktop machines (as an upgrade or for new machines) from Element 14 and subsequently Pace Micro Technology. StrongARM
The StrongARM is a family of computer microprocessors developed by Digital Equipment Corporation and manufactured in the late 1990s which implemented the ARM v4 instruction set architecture. It was later acquired by Intel in 1997 from DEC's own Digital Semiconductor division as part of a settlement of a lawsuit between the two companies over plagiarism. Intel then continued to manufacture it before replacing it with the StrongARM-derived ARM-based follow-up architecture called XScale in the early 2000s. History According to Allen Baum, the StrongARM traces its history to attempts to make a low-power version of the DEC Alpha, which DEC's engineers quickly concluded was not possible. Microdigital Eletrônica Ltda. was an influential Brazilian computer company in the 1980s, based in São Paulo. History Established in 1981 by the brothers George and Tomas Kovari (whose initials were the TK of the domestic computers line made by the company), its first product was the ''TK80'', a clone of the British microcomputer Sinclair ZX80. The company reached its height around 1985, with the launching of the TK90X (clone of the ZX Spectrum) and the ''TK-2000 II'', a personal computer partially compatible (at Applesoft BASIC level) with the Apple II+. Risc PC
The Risc PC is Acorn Computers's RISC OS/ Acorn RISC Machine computer, launched on 15 April 1994, which superseded the Acorn Archimedes. The Acorn PC card and software allows PC compatible software to be run. Like the Archimedes, the Risc PC continues the practice of having the RISC OS operating system in a ROM module. Risc PC augments the ROM-based core OS with a disk-based directory structure containing configuration information, and some applications which had previously been kept in ROM.
