Virpi Hämeen-Anttila
Virpi Hämeen-Anttila (born 15 October 1958 in Espoo) is a Finnish writer, translator, and researcher. She was the recipient of the Eino Leino Prize in 2002 along with her husband Jaakko Hämeen-Anttila, for their work in translating and promoting multicultural literature. In addition to being a best-selling novelist, she is a translator and non-fiction writer. She also teaches Sanskrit and the history of Indian art at Helsinki University. Works Hämeen-Anttila has written eleven novels, a series of four detective novels set in Helsinki in the 1920s, and a series of three youth novels (together with her daughter Maria Hämeen-Anttila). She has also translated Indian literature and poetry. Her first novel ''Suden vuosi'' (2003) was turned into a film by the same name in 2007. Virpi Lummaa is a Finnish evolutionary biologist and ecologist. She is an Academy of Finland professor at the University of Turku. Her research interests include ageing, lifespan, and natural selection in contemporary human populations. In addition to her research into human evolution, Lummaa studies life history patterns, social behavior, and more in Asian elephants, another large, long-lived mammal. Lummaa is currently the Principal Investigator of both the Human Life History Group based at the University of Turku and the Myanmar Timber Elephant Project. She has received a starting grant from the European Research Council. Virpi Sinikka Niemelä ( Helsinki, 26 December 1936 – Argentina, 18 December 2006) was a leading Finnish Argentine astronomer. She was the second Argentine to be elected for Associate of the Royal Astronomical Society. Born in Finland, she emigrated with her family to Argentina in 1954 where she lived for the majority of her life. She became a citizen, married and had two sons. Education She started university at the National University of La Plata to study chemistry, but decided on astronomy through the then Astronomy and Geophysics School. She received her doctorate for research done under Jorge Sahade, with whom she collaborated throughout her career. Virpi Katriina Sarasvuo (née Kuitunen, born 20 May 1976) is a Finnish former cross-country skier who competed from 1995 to 2010. She won a bronze medal in the team sprint event (with Aino-Kaisa Saarinen) at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and earned her best individual finish of fifth in the individual sprint event in those same games. Four years later in Vancouver, Kuitunen won another bronze, this time in the 4 × 5 km relay. Virpi Talvitie (born 1961, in Ilmajoki) is a Finnish illustrator and graphic artist. Talvitie graduated from high school in 1980 and received a bachelor of art degree in Art and Design in 1989. Talvitie has illustrated magazines and children's books. In 2006, she collaborated with Timo Parvela on the book ''Keinulauta'' (Seesaw), which won the Junior Finlandia Prize, a prestigious literary prize in Finland. She won the WSOY Literature Foundation award in 2010, and the Mikkeli Illustration Triennial Prize in 2011.
