Viridian (album)
''Viridian'' is a 2007 studio album by the Austin, Texas bluegrass band The Greencards. Their third Dualtone Records studio album, it was released on March 6, 2007. It was nominated at the 2007 ARIA Music Awards for Best Country Album, but lost to Keith Urban for Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing. Recording In 2007, The Greencards were joined by Matt Wingate, a guitarist from Alabama, for their work on ''Viridian''. On their previous albums, The Greencards had individually recorded their separate musical tracks in isolation booths of recording studios, but for ''Viridian'', recorded their album together in real time in an open room, which was said to be a factor in a spontaneous feel for some of the album. Most of the songs on ''Viridian'' are sung by Young, and all of the tracks on ''Viridian'' were written by The Greencards, with the exception of "Travel On", which was penned by Kim Richey of Nashville. The Greencards
The Greencards are an American progressive bluegrass band that formed in 2003 in Austin, Texas, and relocated in 2005 to Nashville, Tennessee. The band was founded by Englishman Eamon McLoughlin and Australians Kym Warner and Carol Young. The musicians originally performed in local Austin bars, and soon found increasing acclaim. They have released one independent album, '' Movin' On'', in 2003, and two albums, ''Weather and Water'' and ''Viridian'', on the Dualtone record label. Their fourth album, ''Fascination'', was released on Sugar Hill in 2009. Their fifth album, ''The Brick Album'' (2011), was self-produced with the direct support of their fans. Pre-production donors were recognized with their names inscribed on the "bricks" that make up the cover art. A Shropshire Lad
''A Shropshire Lad'' is a collection of sixty-three poems by the English poet Alfred Edward Housman, published in 1896. Selling slowly at first, it then rapidly grew in popularity, particularly among young readers. Composers began setting the poems to music less than ten years after their first appearance, and many parodists have satirised Housman's themes and poetic style. A Shropshire Rhapsody Housman is said originally to have titled his book ''The Poems of Terence Hearsay'', referring to a character there, but changed the title to ''A Shropshire Lad'' at the suggestion of a colleague in the British Museum. A friend of his remembered otherwise, however, and claimed that Housman's choice of title was always the latter. He had more than a year to think about it, since most of the poems he chose to include in his collection were written in 1895, while he was living at Byron Cottage in Highgate. Jedd Hughes (born in Quorn, Australia) is an Australian singer, songwriter, session musician, and record producer. Early life Hughes grew up in Quorn, where he grew up listening to his father's country records. He won a local country music contest at the age of eight and began playing guitar from age nine, taking lessons from his father. Carol Young is an Australian musician, and a founding member of the American bluegrass band The Greencards. Biography Early life Young is originally from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. Prior to the founding of The Greencards, Young won the Australian Independent Country Artist of the Year award in 2000, and had recorded two No. 1 Australian-charted country music singles. Early on, Young was a singer in Outback country bands and acts, including Gina Jeffreys.
