Virginia State Route 189
State Route 189 (SR 189) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known for much of its length as South Quay Road, the state highway runs from U.S. Route 258 (US 258) near Franklin east to US 58 Business in Suffolk. Route description SR 189 begins at an intersection with US 258 (Smiths Ferry Road) in Southampton County south of the city of Franklin. The state highway heads northeast as two-lane undivided South Quay Road, which passes close to a bend in the Blackwater River before curving east to cross the river into the independent city of Suffolk. The state highway curves north and meets the western end of SR 272, onto which the South Quay Road name continues while SR 189 heads north as an unnamed road. SR 189 meets US 58 and US 258 (Franklin Bypass) at a partial cloverleaf interchange. Franklin is the southwesternmost independent city in Hampton Roads, Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,180. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Franklin with Southampton County for statistical purposes. Franklin District (Norfolk Southern Railway)
Franklin District was a New Zealand territorial authority that lay between the Auckland metropolitan area and the Waikato Plains. Holland, Virginia
Holland, Virginia was an incorporated town in the southwestern section of Nansemond County, Virginia. Since 1974, it has been a community in the independent city of Suffolk, Virginia following a political consolidation which formed Virginia's largest city in geographic area. History Holland was named for an English family headed by Capt. John Holland, who arrived in Massachusetts in 1630. A record given in Hotten's List of Persons of Quality, 1600–1700, states John Holland and wife as being sought in Massachusetts in 1627 for taking part in tax protests against the Crowns wishes under Theophilus Clinton, 4th Earl of Lincoln. Holland followed Thomas Dudley as Steward for the Earl, later Governor of Massachusetts.
