Virginia State Route 155
State Route 155 (SR 155) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Courthouse Road, the state highway runs from SR 5 in Charles City north to SR 249 at Carps Corner. SR 155 connects Charles City and New Kent, the county seats of Charles City County and New Kent County, respectively, with each other and with U.S. Route 60 (US 60) and Interstate 64 (I-64). Route description SR 155 begins at a four-way intersection with SR 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) in Charles City. Courthouse Road continues south as SR 644 to serve the Charles City County offices and courthouse. SR 155 heads north past Charles City Middle School and Charles City High School and passes through the hamlets of Roaches Corner and Sandybottom. State Route 33 (SR 33) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 33 and US 250 in Richmond, Virginia east to Chesapeake Boulevard in Stingray Point. SR 33 is a state-numbered eastward extension of US 33 that connects Richmond with West Point and the Middle Peninsula, one of three large peninsulas on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Diamond Interchange
A diamond interchange is a common type of road junction, used where a controlled-access highway crosses a minor road. Design The freeway itself is grade-separated from the minor road, one crossing the other over a bridge. Approaching the interchange from either direction, an off-ramp diverges only slightly from the freeway and runs directly across the minor road, becoming an on-ramp that returns to the freeway in similar fashion. The two places where the ramps meet the road are treated as conventional intersections. In the United States, where this form of interchange is very common, particularly in rural areas, traffic on the off-ramp typically faces a stop sign at the minor road, while traffic turning onto the freeway is unrestricted. Colonial Downs
Colonial Downs is a Race track, racetrack located in New Kent County, Virginia adjacent to Interstate 64, halfway between Richmond, Virginia, Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia, Williamsburg. The track conducted Thoroughbred flat racing and Standardbred harness racing between 1997 and 2014, and reopened for thoroughbreds in 2019. It is owned and operated by Churchill Downs, Inc. History and information The track opened on September 1, 1997. More than 13,000 attended the track on opening day. The track used several unconventional construction and business approaches. Peninsula Subdivision
The Peninsula Extension which created the Peninsula Subdivision of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) was the new railroad line on the Virginia Peninsula from Richmond to southeastern Warwick County. Its principal purpose was to provide an important new pathway for coal mined in West Virginia to reach the harbor of Hampton Roads for coastal and export shipping on collier ships. Completed on October 16, 1881, the new double-tracked railroad and the other development visions of industrialist Collis Potter Huntington resulted in a 15-year transition of the rural farm village of Newport News into a new independent city which also became home to the world's largest shipyard. The railroad, one of the later developed in Virginia, became important to many communities, opening transportation options, and stimulating commerce and military operations on the Peninsula throughout the 20th century.
