Virginia Secretary Of Veterans And Defense Affairs
The Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs is a member of the Virginia Governor's Cabinet. It was created by Governor Bob McDonnell in 2010 to succeed the position of the Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness. It was referred to as the "Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security" until 2014, when most homeland security responsibilities were transferred over to the Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security. The office was most recently held by Carlos Hopkins, who succeeded retired Admiral John C. Harvey Jr. in 2017. Craig Crenshaw has been nominated to serve as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Virginia Governor's Cabinet
The Virginia Governor's Cabinet is a body of the most senior appointed officers of the executive branch of the government of Virginia. The Cabinet is responsible for advising the Governor of Virginia. Cabinet officers are nominated by the Governor and then presented to the Virginia General Assembly for confirmation. Once confirmed, all members of the Cabinet receive the title "Secretary" and serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The current Cabinet is serving under Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin. Jim Gilmore
James Stuart Gilmore III (born October 6, 1949) is an American politician, diplomat, statesman, and former attorney who was the 68th Governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002 and Chairman of the Republican National Committee in 2001. A native Virginian, Gilmore graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia, and then served in the U.S. Army as a counterintelligence agent.
