Virginia Cavaliers Swimming And Diving
The Virginia Cavaliers Swimming and Diving teams represent the University of Virginia in all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Swimming and Diving Events. In 2021, the women's side won the NCAA Championship, a first for any Atlantic Coast Conference team, and finished in the national top 10 for a third consecutive season. The men's side also finished in the national top 10 for the second consecutive season. In 2022, the women won their second consecutive NCAA Championship. History Swimming and diving was introduced at the University of Virginia in 1925, when it was only a men's sport. It was introduced as a women's sport in 1974. Both the men's and women's teams have been successful in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the men having won sixteen ACC championships, and the women seventeen. The 2015 NCAA Women's Division I Swimming and Diving Championships were contested March 19–21, 2015 at the 34th annual NCAA-sanctioned swim meet to determine the team and individual national champions of Division I women's collegiate swimming and diving in the United States. This year's events were hosted by North Carolina State University at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Lauren Perdue (born June 25, 1991) is an American competitive swimming (sport), swimmer who specializes in freestyle swimming, freestyle events. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and earned a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Perdue was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and attended J. H. Rose High School in Greenville, North Carolina. Fran Crippen
Francis Crippen (April 17, 1984 – October 23, 2010) was an American long-distance swimmer. After being a pool swimmer for most of his career, Crippen made the transition to open water swimming in 2006. In international competitions, Crippen won seven medals, five of which were in the open water and two in the pool. Crippen died during an open water swimming race in the United Arab Emirates in 2010 at the age of 26. Biography Crippen was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in 1984 to Pete and Pat Crippen. Glenn Edward Moses Jr. (born June 7, 1980) is an American former competition swimming (sport), swimmer and breaststroke specialist who is an Olympic gold medalist, world champion, and former world record-holder.
