The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Patrick County is a county located on the central southern border of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,608. Its county seat is Stuart. It is located within both the rolling hills and valleys of the Piedmont Region and the more mountainous Southwest Virginia. Franklin County is located in the Blue Ridge foothills of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 54,477. Its county seat is Rocky Mount. Franklin County is part of the Roanoke Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located in the Roanoke Region of Virginia. The Roanoke River forms its northeast boundary with Bedford County. Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 50,948. Wren Williams is an American businessman, attorney, and politician serving as delegate for the 47th district of the Virginia House of Delegates. Williams previously represented the 9th district until the 2021 redistricting. Williams, a Republican, defeated seven-term incumbent Charles Poindexter in the Republican primary, and Democratic nominee, activist Bridgette Craighead, in the 2021 Virginia House of Delegates election.
