Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Middle Peninsula
The Middle Peninsula is the second of three large peninsulas on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the Middle Peninsula was home to 92,886 people. It lies between the Northern Neck and the Virginia Peninsula. Gloucester County () is a county in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,711. Its county seat is Gloucester Courthouse. The county was founded in 1651 in the Virginia Colony and is named for Henry Stuart, Duke of Gloucester (third son of King Charles I of England). King and Queen County is a county in the U.S. state of Virginia, located in the state's Middle Peninsula on the eastern edge of the Richmond, VA metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,608. Its county seat is King and Queen Court House. History King and Queen County was established in 1691 from New Kent County. Mathews County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,533. Its county seat is Mathews. Middlesex County is a county located on the Middle Peninsula in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,625. Its county seat is Saluda. History This area was long settled by indigenous peoples; those encountered by Europeans were of the Algonquian-speaking peoples, part of loose alliance of tribes known as the Powhatan Confederacy. The Nimcock had a village on the river where Urbanna was later developed. English settlement of the area began around 1640, with the county being officially formed in 1668 from a part of Lancaster County. This settlement pushed the Nimcock upriver. Myron Keith Hodges (born May 6, 1966) is an American politician. A Republican, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2011. He the 68th district, made up of the Middle Peninsula counties of Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, Mathews and Middlesex, and part of King William County. Early life and education Hodges was born in Richmond, Virginia and raised on the Middle Peninsula. He received a B.S. degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy in 1989. Political career The 98th district incumbent, Republican Harvey Morgan, retired in 2011. Hodges won a four-way primary for the Republican nomination with 40.92% of the vote. He then defeated Democratic candidate Andy Shoukas with 16,647 votes to Shoukas' 4,556. Hodges ran for re-election in 2013 against Independent candidate Geneva Putt. He won with 75.4% of the vote.
