Virginia's 91st House Of Delegates District
Virginia's 91st House of Delegates district elects one of the 100 members of the Virginia House of Delegates, the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. Located in southern, coastal Virginia, the district is made up of the city of Poquoson, part of the city of Hampton and part of York County. Following the 2023 House of Delegates election, the 91st district will instead include sections of the independent cities of Portsmouth and Chesapeake. The seat has been held by Republican A.C. Cordoza since 2022. Martha Mugler (née Vogel; born July 23, 1961) is an American politician from Virginia. She was first elected to the Hampton School Board in 2008 then to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019. She won the seat vacated by retiring Republican Delegate Gordon Helsel. She represented a district covering a large slice of Hampton, as well as all of the neighboring city of Poquoson. Aijalon Carlton "A.C." Cordoza (born 1989) is an American politician from Virginia. He was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2021, defeating incumbent Democratic Delegate Martha Mugler. Cordoza represents the 86th district, which covers a large slice of Hampton, as well as all of the neighboring city of Poquoson, and a small slice of neighboring York County. Early life Aijalon Cordoza was born in New York City, and grew up in Hampton, Virginia. In 2008, he graduated from Hampton High School; in 2013, he joined the United States Air Force, in which he served for three years before leaving honorably. Cordoza began attending Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton in 2014, graduating in 2016 with an associate degree in information technology. 2021 Virginia House Of Delegates Election
The 2021 Virginia House of Delegates election for the 162nd Virginia General Assembly were held on November 2, 2021 to coincide with biennial elections in the U.S. state of Virginia. All 100 Delegates are elected to two-year terms in single-member constituencies. Primary elections took place on June 8. This election coincided with the Virginia gubernatorial, lieutenant gubernatorial, and Attorney General elections, all of which were won by Republicans. The upper house of the Virginia General Assembly, the Senate of Virginia, will hold its next election on November 7, 2023. The results certified on November 15 show Republicans flipping seven seats and regaining a majority in the House of Delegates. All races have been called by the Associated Press. Gordon Clair Helsel, Jr. (born January 9, 1947) is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and former mayor of Poquoson, Virginia. He represented the 91st district, which includes Poquoson and part of the neighboring city of Hampton. A retired businessman, Helsel previously served on the city council (1982–1990), as vice mayor (1990–1994), and as mayor (1996–2010) of Poquoson.
