The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. Arlington County is a County (United States), county in the Virginia, Commonwealth of Virginia. Virginia's 8th congressional district is a United States congressional district in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It comprises all of Arlington County, portions of Fairfax County and all of the independent cities of Alexandria and Falls Church. The residents of the 8th district are currently represented by Democratic Congressman Don Beyer, elected in November 2014. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+27, it is the most Democratic district in Virginia, and one of the most Democratic white-majority districts in the South.
