Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Chesterfield County is located just south of Richmond, Virginia, Richmond in the Commonwealth (U.S. state), Commonwealth of Virginia. Roxann L. Robinson (born January 11, 1956 in Weirton, West Virginia) is an American politician. A Republican, she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2010. She the 27th district, in Chesterfield County, in the southern suburbs of Richmond. Early life, education, business career Robinson graduated from Brooke High School in Wellsburg, West Virginia in 1974. She received a B.S. degree in biology from Fairmont State College in 1978. She then attended the Illinois College of Optometry, where she earned a B.S. in visual science and an O.D. Robinson married Michael Earl Lind, c. 1985. They settled in Chesterfield County, where she established an optometry practice. Stephen Holliday Martin (born June 15, 1956) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1988–1994 and the Senate of Virginia from 1994–2016. Electoral history In 1987, Martin defeated incumbent Democrat Leslie Saunders for the 67th District House of Delegates seat, 51%-49%. In 1989, Saunders challenged Martin for the seat, but Martin won 55%-45%. Due to redistricting, Martin was redrawn into the 27th District in 1991, and won the House of Delegates seat unopposed, and was re-elected in 1993. In February 1994, Martin won a special election to the state Senate in the 11th District after Robert Russell resigned after being convicted of embezzlement. He received 75% of the vote in a four-way race.
