Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Martinsville is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,485. A community of both Southside and Southwest Virginia, it is the county seat of Henry County, although the two are separate jurisdictions. The Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the city of Martinsville with Henry County for statistical purposes. Martinsville is the principal city of the Martinsville Micropolitan Statistical Area, with a population of 73,346 as of the 2000 census. Henry County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 50,948. The county seat is usually identified as Martinsville; however, the administration building (where county offices are located and where the board of supervisors holds meetings), county courthouse, and Henry County Sheriff's Office are located on Kings Mountain Road (SR 174) in Collinsville.The Henry County Adult Detention Center is located on DuPont Road in Martinsville. Pittsylvania County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 60,501. Chatham is the county seat. Pittsylvania County is included in the Danville, VA Micropolitan Statistical Area. Les Adams (politician)
Leslie Ray Adams (born June 18, 1974) is an American politician from Virginia. A member of the Republican Party, Adams succeeded Don Merricks as the member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 16th district in 2014 and resigned in December 2023, effective the following month, at the end of his term. Early life Leslie Adams was born in Montgomery County, Virginia, in 1974. He graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in 1996 and from the University of Richmond School of Law with a Juris Doctor in 1999. Career Adams was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2013, representing the 16th district. Clifton Alexander "Chip" Woodrum III (July 23, 1938 – February 19, 2013) was a Virginia lawyer and politician. Early and family life Born in Washington, D.C. to Clifton A. Robert Hurt (born June 16, 1969) is an American attorney and politician who served as the U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2017, where he served on the Financial Services Committee as vice chair of the Capital Markets Subcommittee and Housing and Insurance Subcommittee. The Senate of Virginia is the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. The Senate is composed of 40 senators representing an equal number of single-member constituent districts. The Senate is presided over by the lieutenant governor of Virginia.
