The Bengali Language Movement of Barak Valley was a protest against the decision of the Government of Assam to make Assamese language, Assamese the only sole official language of the state, even though knowing that a major proportion of the Barak Valley population speaks Bangla language. About 80% of the Valley's residents are ethnic Bengalis. In the Barak Valley region, the ethnic Bengali population consists of both Bengali Hindus, Hindus and Bengali Muslims, Muslims, who are almost equal in population and constitute the overwhelming majority of the population. There is also a substantial minority of native tribals and immigrants from other parts of India. Virendra Bhatia (22 April 1947 – 24 May 2010) was a politician from the Samajwadi Party and a Member of the Parliament of India represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Virendra Kumar Khatik (born 27 February 1954) is an Indian politician serving as the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment. He is a Member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha from Tikamgarh. He was also the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Labour and a Member of the General Purpose Committee. He was chosen as the Pro-tem speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha in June 2019. Virendra Kumar Baranwal is an Indian poet and writer. He was awarded by Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan Award in 2004 for his work ''Jinna: Ek Punardrishti''. Personal life Baranwal was born on 21 September 1941 to Dayaram Baranwal and his wife Gayatri Devi in the village of Phoolpur in Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. His father was a Freedom fighter. He acquired B.A., M.A. degrees from Banaras Hindu University. Further he did his LL.B. degree from Bhopal University. Baranwal retired from the post of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in the Indian Revenue Service from 1969 to 2005, teaching English language and literature for a few years. Virendra Kumar Sakhlecha (4 March 1930 – 31 May 1999) was an Indian politician who served as the 10th Chief Minister Of Madhya Pradesh from 18 January 1978 to 19 January 1980. He was a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He hailed from Mandsaur district. Career Sakhlecha was born on 4 March 1930. He came close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at a tender age and joined Sangh in 1945. He was made Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1962 by Kushabhau Thakre when Jana Sangh won 41 MLAs to the 288-seat assembly. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ealing Southall since winning the seat at a by-election in 2007. Early life and background Virendra Kumar Sharma was born on 5 April 1947 in Mandhali, Nawanshahr in the Punjab Province of British India (now Mandhali, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, Punjab, India) into a Punjabi Hindu Brahmin family and received his education at the London School of Economics on a trade union scholarship.
