Vinjesvingen
Vinje is a village in Vinje Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The village is located near the northwest end of the lake Vinjevatn. The European route E134 highway runs through the village, right past Vinje Church on its way towards the village of Åmot about to the southeast. ''Vinjesvingen'' is the name of a particular area in the northwest part of the village. This is a road fork where the European route E134 highway meets the Norwegian County Road 3408 which goes to Tokke Municipality. Battle Of Vinjesvingen
The Battle of Vinjesvingen was a battle of the Norwegian campaign and took place in May 1940 in the Telemark county, Norway. It became one of the two last strongholds of Norwegian resistance in southern Norway during World War II, the other being Hegra Fortress. Background Under the command of Second Lieutenant Thor O. Hannevig, the Norwegians held their position against superior German forces until 5 May 1940. Hannevig managed to sneak great loads of arms, equipment and fuel from depots right in front of the German forces. The equipment was brought to Vinje and Vågsli in Telemark, where Hannevig established a unit which came to be known as Telemark Infantry Regiment. This included Krag–Jørgensen bolt action rifles, Madsen light machine guns, Colt M/29 heavy machine guns, mortars as well as mines and explosives to destroy bridges and roads. Vinje Church (Telemark)
Vinje Church ( no, Vinje kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vinje Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vinje. It is one of the churches for the ''Vinje og Nesland'' parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The red, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1796 using plans drawn up by the architect Jarand Rønjom. The church seats about 235 people. History The first church in Vinje was a wooden stave church that was built sometime between 1185 and 1202 (during the reign of King Sverre of Norway). The dating of the church is based on an inscription in the church, along with the general style of the design of the building. The runic inscription says which means "Sigurd Jarlsson carved these runes on the Saturday after 'Botolvsmesse' 7 June when he fled here and did not want to settle with Sverre, who murdered his father and brothers." Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag.
