Vindafjord Municipality
Vindafjord is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Rogaland Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional district of Haugaland. Since 2005, the administrative centre of the municipality has been the village of Ølensjøen (prior to that time it was the village of Sandeid). Other villages in the municipality include Bjoa, Imslandsjøen, Ølensvåg, Skjold, Rogaland, Skjold, Vats, Rogaland, Vats, Vikebygd, and Vikedal. The municipality is centered on the Vindafjorden and Sandeidfjorden in the east and it lies north and east of the Skjoldafjorden in the west. The municipality is the 186th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Vindafjord is the 122nd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 8,775. Ølensjøen
Ølensjøen or Ølen is the administrative centre of Vindafjord municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located at the southern end of the Ølsfjorden, along the European route E134 highway, just east of the village of Ølensvåg. The village has a population (2019) of 1,259 and a population density of . It is the largest urban area in the municipality. Ølensjøen is the regional center for commerce for the inner part of the Haugalandet area. It has a secondary school, sports club, and a public swimming pool. Norway's largest privately owned slaughterhouse, Fatland slakteri, is located in Ølensjøen. The village is located at the northern end of the Skjoldafjorden, along the European route E134 highway, about northeast of the town of Haugesund. Skjold Church is located in the village. Hordaland
Hordaland () was a county in Norway, bordering Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Telemark, and Rogaland counties. Hordaland was the third largest county, after Akershus and Oslo, by population. Ølen
Ølen is a former municipality in the Vestlandet region of Norway. The municipality existed from 1916 until 2006, and originally it was a part of Hordaland county, but in 2002 it was transferred to Rogaland county prior to its dissolution in 2006. The municipality was located on the south side of the Bjoafjorden and east of the Ålfjorden. The administrative center of Ølen was the village of Ølensjøen. The municipality of Ølen makes up the northern part of the present-day Vindafjord Municipality in Rogaland county. Suldal is a municipality in the northeast corner of Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Ryfylke. Tysvær
Tysvær is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is part of the Haugalandet region. The municipality is located on the Haugalandet peninsula on the northern side of the Boknafjorden, just east of the towns of Kopervik and Haugesund. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Aksdal. The Schei Committee ( no, Schei-komitéen) was a committee named by the Government of Norway to look into the organization of municipalities in Norway post-World War II. It convened in 1946, and its formal name was (The 1946 Committee on Municipal Division). Its more commonly used name derives from the committee leader, Nikolai Schei Nikolai Andreas Schei (9 May 1901 – 25 May 1985) was a Norwegian jurist and civil servant. Skjoldafjorden
Skjoldafjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The long fjord is a northern branch of vast Boknafjorden which dominates Rogaland county. The fjord is located in the municipalities of Tysvær and Vindafjord. The north end of the Skjoldafjorden at the village of Skjold connects to the Grindafjorden which flows from the village of Grinde to Skjold. The south end of the fjord empties in to a large bay called the Hervikfjorden, which flows directly into the Boknafjorden. The island Borgøy is located at the mouth of the fjord where the Hervikfjorden begins. Further to the north, the narrow passage Skjoldastraumen has strong tide flows and is rather shallow. A lock system was built there to accommodate boat traffic. It is the only salt water lock in Norway. Vindafjorden
Vindafjorden ( en, Vinde Fjord or Vinda Fjord) is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The long fjord is a northern branch off of the main Boknafjorden. The fjord marks the municipal boundaries between Vindafjord, Suldal, and Tysvær. The fjord initially runs from the very narrow ''Ropeid'' isthmus to the west and near the village of Vikadal, the fjord heads to the south before emptying into the Boknafjorden near the village of Nedstrand. There are two smaller fjords which branch off of the Vindafjorden. They are the Sandeidfjorden (to the north) and the Yrkjefjorden (to the west). The deepest part of the fjord reaches about below sea level, just off the shore from Imsland Church.
