Vince Henderson (politician)
Vince Henderson is a Dominican politician from the Dominica Labour Party. In the 2000 Dominican general election, he defeated Doreen Paul. From March 2010 to 2016, he was the Permanent Representative of Dominica to the United Nations and the United States. On 2 December 2021, he was sworn in as Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy. The Dominica Labour Party is a centre-left social-democratic political party in Dominica. History Founded in 1955 by Phyllis Shand Allfrey and Emmanuel Christopher Loblack, the Dominica Labour Party is the oldest political party in Dominica. In the next elections in 1966 it won all but one of the seats. It retained power in the 1970 elections, although it was reduced to eight seats. In 1980 the party suffered a major defeat, seeing its vote share reduced from 50% to 17%, and losing all its seats as the Dominica Freedom Party won the elections. 2000 Dominican General Election
General elections were held in Dominica on 31 January 2000 and saw the Dominica Labour Party led by Rosie Douglas take power defeating the previous government of the United Workers' Party led by Edison James, despite the UWP receiving more votes. The DLP won 10 seats, the UWP 9 seats and the Dominica Freedom Party took 2 seats. Voter turnout was 59.25%. Doreen Paul
Doreen Paul (born 1962) was a Dominican banker who served in politics from 1990 to 2000. She was particularly involved, as the Minister of Health and Social Security, in the development of infrastructure improvement projects including health centers, sports complexes, roads and water systems. Early life Doreen James was born in 1962, in the west coast village of Layou in British Dominica to Dorothy and Isaac James. She began her education at the St. Joseph Government School and then attended Convent High School before entering Dominica Grammar School, to complete her high school studies in 1981. While she was attending school, Dominica gained its independence from Britain in 1978. She went on to study at Sixth Form College, graduating in 1983.
