''Le Villi'' (''The Willis'' or ''The Fairies'') is an opera–ballet in two acts (originally one) composed by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Ferdinando Fontana, based on the short story "Les Willis" by Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr. Karr's story was in turn based in the Central European legend of the Vila, also used in the ballet ''Giselle''. The opera, in its original one-act version, was first performed at the Teatro Dal Verme, Milan, on 31 May 1884. ''Le Villi'' is Puccini's first stage work. It was written for an 1883 competition of one-act operas by the publisher Sonzogno in his periodical ''Il teatro illustrato'', but did not even earn an honourable mention. According to Mosco Carner, this may have been because it was written in such haste that the score was all but illegible. Ilkka Villi (born 4 August 1975) is a Finnish actor and writer, best known internationally for his work in the video game ''Alan Wake'' as well as the crime drama series '' Bordertown''. Villi Bossi
Villi Bossi (born 8 November 1939) is an Italian sculptor. Born at Muggia, near Trieste, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa under the scholarship of Lodovico Caraventa. He attended the "Free School of Figure" directed by Nino Perizi at the Revoltella Museum in Trieste. From 1964 on, he held several exhibits, both exclusive ones and not, showing up his ability with various materials, including different types of wood and, in particular, sandstone and marble. In 1995 a large sculpture in Laas marble of his was placed in a park of Dresden (Germany). In 2004, Villi Bossi sculpted a large "Venetian Lyon" for the Assicurazioni Generali, which is also the logo of this major insurance company, placed in the neighbourhood of Padua, starting from a large block of stone, sized 8 cubic meters. Olga Villi (20 January 1922 – 12 August 1989), was an Italian model and actress. Life and career Born in Suzzara, Mantua as Olga Villani, Villi began to work, only twelve years old, as a saleswoman and seamstress at the Milanese fashion house Biki. A few years later her employer hired her as a model; noted by Macario, she was hired by him in 1942 for the rivista- operetta ''Il grillo al castello'', where she had to act, sing and dance. Thanks to the success of the show Villi became one of the most quoted soubrettes of the period, working with Anna Magnani, Nino Taranto and Alberto Sordi, and in mid-1940s she also starred in several drama plays, working among others with Luchino Visconti, Alessandro Blasetti and Giorgio Strehler. Willibald Karl Boskovsky (16 June 1909 – 21 April 1991) was an Austrian violinist and conductor, best known as the long-standing conductor of the Vienna New Year's Concert from 1955 to 1979. Biography Boskovsky was born in Vienna, and joined the Vienna Academy of music at the age of nine. He was the concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic from 1939 to 1971. He was also, from 1955, the conductor of the Vienna New Year's Concert, which is mostly devoted to the music of Johann Strauss II and his contemporaries. Willi Ivanovich Tokarev (; 11 November 1934 – 4 August 2019) was a Russian-American singer-songwriter. In the 1980s, he became famous throughout the Soviet Union for his songs about life as a Russian ''émigré'' in New York in Brighton Beach. Early life and education Vilen Ivanovich Tokarev was born in the small Cossack village of Chernyshev in Adyghe Autonomous Oblast, North Caucasus Krai, Soviet Union, on 11 November 1934.
