Villarrica, Chile
Villarrica is a city and commune in southern Chile located on the western shore of Villarrica Lake in the Province of Cautín, Araucanía Region south of Santiago and close to the Villarrica Volcano ski center to the south east. Residents of Villarrica are known as ''Villarricences''. Tourism, grain and dairy farming, and forestry are the main economic activities of the community. The climate is mild and humid with the greatest rainfall experienced between May and July (autumn and winter). The dry season is between December and February (Summer). Other lakes found nearby include Calafquén, Caburgua, Huilipilún and Colico. In the summer water sports and sunbathing are popular activities in the warm temperatures experienced at the low altitudes ranging from 200 to 500m above sea level. History Of Mining In Chile
During most of Chile's history, from 1500 to the present, mining has been an important economic activity. 16th century mining was oriented towards the exploitation of gold placer deposits using encomienda labour. After a period of decline in the 17th century mining resurged in the 18th and early 19th century this time revolving chiefly around silver. In the 1870s silver mining declined sharply. Chile took over the highly lucrative saltpetre mining districts of Peru and Bolivia in the War of the Pacific (1879–83). In the first half of the 20th century copper mining overshadowed the declining saltpetre mining. Pucón
Pucón (Mapudungun: "entrance to the cordillera") is a Chilean city and commune administered by the municipality of Pucón https://www.mipucon.com/ sitio web. Jerónimo De Alderete
Jerónimo de Alderete y Mercado (; c. 1518 – April 7, 1556) was a Spanish conquistador who was later named governor of Chile, but died before he could assume his post. Early life Alderete was born in Olmedo, Castille in 1518, the son of Francisco de Mercado and of Isabel de Alderete. He came to Peru in 1535, under the orders of Diego de Rojas who intended to undertake the conquest of the Gran Chaco region. The expedition had several difficulties attempting to reach the Pilcomayo River. Alderete settled down in Tarija, until he became a member of Francisco de Aguirre's force who joined Pedro de Valdivia's in the conquest of Chile in 1540. Villarrica National Park
Villarrica National Park is located in the Andes, in the La Araucanía and Los Ríos regions of Chile, near Pucón. The centerpiece of the park is a line of three volcanoes stretching transversely to the Andean range: Villarrica, Quetrupillán, and Lanín. Other mountains in the park include Quinquilil volcano (), also known as ''Colmillo del Diablo'', and Cerro Las Peinetas, which lies on the border between Argentina and Chile. It ranges in elevation from to at Lanín Volcano. The drainage divide between the Toltén River drainage basin and the Valdivia River basin runs through the park and marks the boundary between the Cautín Province and the Valdivia Province. Liquiñe
Liquiñe is a town in Liquiñe Valley, in Panguipulli commune, Valdivia Province, Chile. The area around the village is home to South America's densest collection of hot springs. There are literally hundred of sites where geothermal waters flow up out of the earth. The water emerges from the ground at roughly 176°F (80°C). Therefore, the water must be cooled before being fed into pools for bathing. The Liquiñe Hot Springs feature geothermally-heated mineral water. Geologically the town is crossed by the north-south Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault. The road to Carirriñe Pass goes through Liquiñe, allowing transit to and from Junín de los Andes in Argentina. Coñaripe
Coñaripe is a Chilean town and resort area, located on the shore of Calafquén Lake. Administratively it belongs to Panguipulli commune in Valdivia Province of Los Ríos Region. The town is placed at its current position since the older settlement of Coñaripe was destroyed in 1964 when a lahar flow ran over the town. Trancura River
Trancura River (also known as Pucón River or Minetúe River) is a river located in the La Araucanía Region of Chile. Its headwaters drain the southeasternmost portion of Villarrica National Park, including the northwestern slope of Lanín volcano. The river flows initially to the north and from its junction with its main tributary, the ''Maichín River'', the Trancura turns in a westerly direction until emptying into the Villarrica Lake, after having received the waters of Caburgua Lake through ''Carrileufú River''. This latter river emerges at the Ojos del Caburgua and is fed by the Liucura River, which further has as a tributary the outflow stream of Tinquilco Lake.
