In Bangladesh, a village is the smallest territorial and social unit for administrative and representative purposes. At the 1991 census, there were 68,038 villages in Bangladesh with an average of 232 households. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. Union council ( bn, ইউনিয়ন পরিষদ, translit=iūniyan pariṣad, translit-std=IAST), also known as union parishad, rural council, rural union and simply union, is the smallest rural administrative and local government unit in Bangladesh.
