Vikøyri
Vikøyri is the administrative center of the municipality of Vik in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the Vikja river on the south shore of the Sognefjorden, roughly near the midpoint of Norway's longest fjord. The village lies along Norwegian National Road 13 which leads north to the ferry to Balestrand and south to the village of Vossevangen. The village has a population (2019) of 1,245 and a population density of . Vikøyri sits about south of the village of Balestrand (across the fjord), about northeast of the village of Arnafjord. To the north and west of Vikøyri lie the villages of Vangsnes, Feios, and Fresvik. Vikøyri is northwest of the Fresvikbreen glacier and about northeast of the big lake Holskardvatnet. Vik Church
Vik Church ( no, Vik kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vik Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vikøyri. It is the church for the Vik parish which is part of the Sogn prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1877 using plans drawn up by the architect Haakon Thorsen. The church seats about 450 people. History In the 1870s, the old Hove Church and Hopperstad Stave Church parishes were both in need of new churches. The issue was first raised by the local parish priest Jørgen Christian Andreas Grøner who complained about the size of the two churches. Hove Church
Hove Church ( no, Hove kyrkje) is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Vik Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vikøyri on the Arnafjord, an arm of the Sognefjord. It was historically the main church for Hove parish in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The gray, stone church was built in a long church design in a Romanesque style around the year 1170 using plans drawn up by unknown architect. The church seats about 35 people. Hopperstad Stave Church
Hopperstad Stave Church ( no, Hopperstad stavkyrkje) is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in the village of Vikøyri in Vik Municipality in Vestland county. It was historically the church for the Hopperstad parish in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The church is currently owned by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments. Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. Arnafjord
Nese (or ''Arnafjord'') is a village in Vik Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the shore of the inner part of the Arnafjorden in the eastern part of the municipality. This is the site of Arnafjord Church, where there has been a church since the 1600s. This village was historically the main village around this fjord, with a shop, post office, and steamship stop. Today the population has declined to that of a very small village. Nese sits about southwest of the village of Vikøyri, at the end of the road. There is only one road that leads to Nese, and the village is at the end of the road. There are no other roads leading further west in the municipality. Sogn Og Fjordane
Sogn og Fjordane (; English: "Sogn and Fjordane") was, up to 1 January 2020, a county in western Norway, when it was merged to become part of Vestland county. Bordering previous counties Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Buskerud, and Hordaland, the county administration was in the village of Hermansverk in Leikanger municipality. Fresvikbreen is a glacier on the south side of the Sognefjord in the municipality of Vik in Vestland, county, Norway. Fresvik
Fresvik is a village in the municipality of Vik in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the southern shore of the Sognefjorden, just west of where the Aurlandsfjorden joins the Sognefjorden. Fresvik sits about south of Leikanger-Hermansverk, about east of the municipal center of Vikøyri, and about southeast of the village of Feios. The population (2001) of Fresvik is approximately 275.
