Vijay Nath
Vijay Nath is a Fijian politician and Member of the Parliament of Fiji for the FijiFirst Party. He served as the Assistant Minister for Disaster Management and Rural and Maritime Development. Nath is from Nausori. He was elected with 1616 votes in the 2014 Fijian general election and was appointed Assistant Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts. In May 2015 he was appointed Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Ministry following the resignation of Pio Tikoduadua. He was re-elected to Parliament in the 2018 election with 2256 votes, and was appointed Assistant Minister of Local Government, Housing and Community Development. Following a Cabinet reshuffle in April 2020, Nath was appointed alongside Jale Sigarara as one of two Assistant Ministers for Disaster Management and Rural and Maritime Development. The People's Alliance is a political party in Fiji. The party was formed in 2021 by incumbent prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Formation Founded by 11 members including Sitiveni Rabuka, the party was registered on 12 August 2021 and subsequently launched on 11 October 2021. On 9 April 2022, the party appointed Manoa Kamikamica as its Deputy Party Leader. Lynda Tabuya and Daniel Lobendahn were also appointed as deputy party leaders on 7 May 2022 as per the party's constitution to have three deputy leaders. 2022 election The party ran 55 candidates in the 2022 Fijian general election. FijiFirst ( fj, iMatai ni Viti) is a liberal political party in Fiji. The party was formed in March 2014 by then Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama. Formation The party was launched on 31 March 2014 with Bainimarama beginning a nationwide tour of the country in a campaign bus to collect the obligatory 5000 signatures necessary to register a political party. The party collected over 40,000 signatures for its registration. Bainimarama says FijiFirst is a name that encompasses his political beliefs. He listed his first candidate and party president Jiko Luveni. The party appointed former Fiji Labour Party senator Bijai Prasad as one of its Vice Presidents as well as the current Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as the party General secretary. ''Ratu'' () is an Austronesian title used by male Fijians of chiefly rank. An equivalent title, ''adi'' (pronounced ), is used by females of chiefly rank. 2022 Fijian General Election
General elections were held in Fiji on 14 December 2022 to elect the 55 members of Parliament. The elections took place following the passage of controversial electoral amendments. In addition to a struggling economy, significant campaign issues included the national debt, ethnic tensions and tackling poverty. During the preliminary count, the Fijian Elections Office (FEO) app displaying the results experienced a glitch, prompting FEO to take down the app temporarily. Once the app was back in operation, the vote tally showed the ruling FijiFirst party leading, resulting in five opposition parties demanding a recount and for the counting process to cease. Jale Sigarara
Jale Sigarara is a Fijian politician, former Member of the Parliament of Fiji, and former Assistant Minister. He is a member of the FijiFirst Party. Sigara is from Wainunu in Bua Province. He previously worked as a civil servant, serving 20 years in the Ministry of Forests and 20 years in the Fijian Affairs Board. He retired in 2014, but served as a representative on the Bua Provincial Council. He subsequently ran as a FijiFirst candidate in the 2018 election and was elected with 697 votes. 2018 Fijian General Election
General elections were held in Fiji on 14 November 2018. The result was a victory for the ruling FijiFirst party of Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama, which received just over 50% of the vote and 27 of the 51 seats in Parliament, a loss of five seats. The main opposition party, Social Democratic Liberal Party, gained six seats, whilst the National Federation Party retained its three seats. The elections also saw female representation in Parliament rise to nearly 20 percent, with 10 of the 51 members being women.
