Vijay Anand (politician)
Vijay Anand ( ta, விஜய் ஆனந்த்: born 7 March 1969), is an anti-corruption activist from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India. Anand formed the 5th Pillar organization whose goal is to fight corruption in Indian politics by fielding candidates who stand against corruption. Early life Vijay Anand was born on 7 March 1969 in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Anand went to the Government College of Technology (GCT) Coimbatore, India and later was employed as a software engineer. 5th Pillar Anand formed the 5th Pillar organization in 2006 to fight against corruption in Indian politics. The organization's goal is to field candidates for the Parliament of India that take a stance against government corruption. The organization also plans to reach out to the segment of the population who abstain from voting due to the perceived lack of credible candidates. Coimbatore, also spelt as Koyamputhur (), sometimes shortened as Kovai (), is one of the major metropolitan cities in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Corruption In India
Corruption in India is an issue which affects economy of central, state and local government agencies in many ways. Corruption is blamed for stunting the economy of India. A study conducted by Transparency International in 2005 recorded that more than 62% of Indians had at some point or another paid a bribe to a public official to get a job done. In 2008, another report showed that about 50% of Indians had first hand experience of paying bribes or using contacts to get services performed by public offices. In 2021 their Corruption Perceptions Index ranked the country in 85th place out of 180, on a scale where the lowest-ranked countries are perceived to have the most honest public sector. Various factors contribute to corruption, including officials siphoning money from government social welfare schemes. 2011 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election
The Fourteenth Legislative Assembly Election was held on 13 April 2011 to elect members from 234 constituencies in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Results were released on 13 May 2011. Two major parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) faced the election as coalitions of multiple political parties: DMK front consisted of 8 parties and the AIADMK of 11 parties. Lok Satta Party
Lok Satta is a classical liberal political party in India, founded by Nagabhairava Jaya Prakash Narayana, a former I.A.S. officer and renowned activist from Andhra Pradesh. Since 1996, the Lok Satta Movement functioned as a non-governmental organisation, but on 2 October 2006, the movement was reorganised into a formal political party. The party intends to further the causes of the Lok Satta Movement, including a reduction in the size of the cabinet, promotion of the Right to Information Act, and disclosure of criminal records and assets by political candidates.
