''Vihir'' (English: The well) is a 2009 Marathi film directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni which was released in March 2010 and was featured in Berlin film festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival 2010, the Netherlands. This is AB Corp Limited's first Marathi film. Plot Vihir is a story of two adolescent boys Sameer and Nachiket (cousins, who are best friends) who struggle with their unconventional outlooks on life and family. They write to each other telling each other about their doings and happenings in life. They get to meet after a long time as Sameer with his mother and sister visit Nachiket's village for a family wedding. Sameer and Nachiket both observe people in the house and try to understand their behaviour as they are not used to complexity of family relationships. Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni is a Marathi film director. He is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India ( FTII), Pune. He is known for Marathi films such as '' Valu'' (The Wild Bull), '' Vihir'' (The Well), ''Deool'' (The Temple) and ''Highway''. He is known for short films such as ''Girni'' (Grinding Machine), ''Three Of Us'', ''Vilay'', ''Gaarud'' and ''Darshan''. The 14th Busan International Film Festival was held from October 8 to October 16, 2009, in Busan, South Korea. A total of 355 films from over 70 countries were screened, beating the record set in the last festival. With a total attendance of 173,516, it had 98 world premieres and 46 international premieres. Vitthal Umap
Vitthal Umap (15 July 1931 – 27 November 2010) was an Indian folk singer, shahir and social worker from Maharashtra state. Umap was an Ambedkarite and Buddhist. To illustrate B. R. Ambedkar's philosophy to the people, he wrote the song-books "Mazi Vani Bhimacharani" and "Mazi Aai Bhimai". He died while performing at a function in Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur on 27 November 2010. Umap, a follower of BR Ambedkar, collapsed while he was onstage at Nagpur’s famous Dikshabhoomi. He was rushed to a private nursing home where he was declared dead. Born in a Mumbai chawl in 1931, Umap struggled for recognition of the neglected folk genres of Maharashtra. He had toured extensively all over the state to keep alive the folk traditions. Umap had won the first prize at the International Folk Music and Art Festival at Cork, Ireland.
