''Vietnam Idol'' ( or from season 5) is a Vietnamese reality television competition to find new solo singing talents. It is part of the ''Idol'' franchise; it originated from the reality program ''Pop Idol'' created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller. Starting from season 8, the show is produced by Vietnam Television and Cát Tiên Sa. History ''Vietnam Idol'' was created based on the British show ''Pop Idol'' and U.S. show ''American Idol''. Đông Tây Promotion and its sponsor partner Unilever secured the format license for US$2 million, which was the highest licensing fee paid for a reality TV show in Vietnam at the time. The show debuted in 2007 in Vietnam under the name ''Thần tượng âm nhạc: Vietnam Idol'' ("music idol: Vietnam idol"), broadcast by Ho Chi Minh City Television under the production of Đông Tây Promotion. Vietnam Idol (season 1)
''Vietnam Idol'' (now retroactively known as Vietnam Idol season 1) is the first season of the interactive reality series produced in Vietnam. The show was hosted by Thanh Thảo and Nguyên Vũ. It began airing on Ho Chi Minh Television together with many other local channels in Hanoi (HTV), Hai Phong, Da Nang (DRT), Khanh Hoa and Quang Ninh Nguyễn Ngọc Phương Vy, from Ho Chi Minh City, was crowned the winner of the season. Nguyễn Ngọc Phương Vy (born August 27, 1987) is a Vietnamese singer who won the first season of ''Vietnam Idol'', in 2007. Vietnam Idol Phương Vy auditioned for ''Vietnam Idol'' in Ho Chi Minh City. She proceeded into the top 10 and was never voted into the bottom three. Phương Vy advanced into the final and won the title over Ngọc Ánh on October 3, 2007 with 53.44% of the votes. Bằng Kiều
Nguyễn Bằng Kiều (born 13 July 1973 in Hanoi), is a Vietnamese ballad singer. He is a former member of bands including Golden Keys, Frangipani, and Watermelon. In 2000, he became a solo artist. In 2002, he relocated to America and married female singer Trizzie Phuong Trinh. From 2004 to 2008, his Vietnam citizenship was revoked due to an unresolved dispute. Thanh Bui
North was an Australian boy band established in 2004. Popular primarily in Asia, the group had top ten singles in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and India. Their debut single was a cover of Peter Cetera's "Glory of Love" which reached No. 1 in both Indonesia and Thailand. North disbanded in 2006.
