''Viernes de Fútbol'' ( Spanish for ''Soccer Friday'') is the Friday night broadcast of Major League Soccer produced by Univision Deportes for broadcast by UniMás and the Univision Deportes Network. Started in 2015, it is the first and (as of 2016) only exclusive broadcast of any major professional sports league in the United States and Canada on a Spanish language television network. UniMás (, stylized as ''UNIMÁS'', and originally known as TeleFutura from its launch on January 14, 2002, to January 6, 2013) is an American Spanish free-to-air television network owned by TelevisaUnivision. Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men's professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport's highest level in the United States. The league comprises 29 teams—26 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada—since the 2023 season. The league is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Major League Soccer has been broadcast live in the United States nationally since the league's inception in 1996 and in Canada since 2007. Keith Costigan
Keith Costigan is a former professional soccer player who now works as a television analyst and commentator for Apple TV. Costigan is originally from Dublin, Ireland where he played youth football for Irish youth clubs Vianney Boys, St. Kevin's Boys and Stella Maris. He also was enrolled in a full-time training course at Home Farm Costigan then spent two years in the League of Ireland with Bray Wanderers and Monaghan United Football Club. Costigan also had a brief spell with Luton Town but never came to terms on a contract. Costigan decided to move onto the United States when offered a full soccer scholarship to Augusta State University and then later to California State University, Bakersfield. Paul Caligiuri
Paul David Caligiuri (born March 9, 1964) is an American former soccer player who played as a defensive midfielder. Caligiuri's professional career spanned 16 years, during which he played for numerous teams in the United States and Germany, and for the U.S. national team. During his 14 years as a defender and defensive midfielder with the national team, he earned 110 caps and scored five goals. Caligiuri is best remembered for his game-winning goal widely dubbed the "Shot heard round the world," which he scored in a 1–0 World Cup qualifier victory over Trinidad and Tobago on November 19, 1989. The victory qualified the United States for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, its first World Cup berth since 1950.
