''Viennese Waltz'' or ''Johann Strauss, Royal and Imperial Court Musician'' (German: ''Johann Strauss, k. u. k. Hofkapellmeister'') is a 1932 German historical musical film directed by Conrad Wiene and starring Michael Bohnen, Lee Parry and Paul Hörbiger.Grange p.391 The film's sets were designed by the art directors Wilhelm Depenau, Hans Ledersteger and Karl Machus. It was shot at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin. Conrad Wiene
Conrad Wiene (3 February 1878 – after May 1934) was an actor, screenwriter, film producer and director of Austrian and German silent films. He was the younger brother of German film director Robert Wiene. Biography Conrad Wiene was born in Vienna, younger son of the successful actor Carl Wiene, in whose footsteps Conrad initially followed as a stage and screen actor. He co-directed his first films with his elder brother Robert, and later made almost twenty feature films, mostly silent. On most of them he also wrote the screenplays. He worked in Berlin, Prague and Breslau (Wrocław) and above all in Vienna, where several of his silent films were shot in the Schönbrunn Studios (''Schönbrunn-Ateliers''). His name was connected with the first proposal in 1930 in Vienna to film Lion Feuchtwanger's 1925 historical novel ''Jud Süß'' ("Jew Süss"), but the project never reached the production stage. Franz Joseph I or Francis Joseph I (german: Franz Joseph Karl, hu, Ferenc József Károly, 18 August 1830 – 21 November 1916) was Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and the Grand title of the Emperor of Austria, other states of the Habsburg monarchy from 2 December 1848 until his death on 21 November 1916. Fritz Spira
Fritz Spira (1 August 1881 – c. 1943) was an Austrian stage and film actor. He appeared frequently in films during the silent and early sound eras. Spira played the role of the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef in the 1926 film ''The Third Squadron''. Spira had been working in Germany before the Nazi takeover in 1933 compelled him to leave because of his Jewish background. He went first to Poland, then returned to his native Austria. Following the Anchluss he tried to leave, but was arrested. He would die in 1943 at the Ruma concentration camp in Vojvodina. Family He was married to Lotte Spira from 1905-1934 and was the father of the actresses Camilla Spira and Steffie Spira. Josef Strauss
Josef Strauss (20 August 1827 – 22 July 1870) was an Austrian composer. He was born in Mariahilf (now Vienna), the son of Johann Strauss I and Maria Anna Streim, and brother of Johann Strauss II and Eduard Strauss. His father wanted him to choose a career in the Austrian Habsburg military. He studied music with Franz Dolleschal and learned to play the violin with Franz Anton Ries. He received training as an engineer, and worked for the city of Vienna as an engineer and designer. He designed a horse-drawn revolving brush street-sweeping vehicle and published two textbooks on mathematical subjects. Strauss had talents as an artist, painter, poet, dramatist, singer, composer and inventor.
