Vidojevica
Vidojevica ( sr, Видојевица) is a mountain in central Serbia, near the town of Prokuplje. Its highest peak, Bandera, has an elevation of above sea level. Astronomical station On the top of the mountain, there is an astronomical observatory operated by the Belgrade Observatory. The facility is at an altitude of and has minimal light pollution. A Cassegrain telescope was installed in spring of 2011. It was named "Nedeljković", after Milan Nedeljković (1857–1950), the first director and founder of Belgrade Observatory in 1887. In the next phase, in spring 2016, a fully robotic telescope was installed at the station. Belgrade Observatory
Belgrade Observatory is an astronomical observatory located in the eastern part of Belgrade, Serbia, in the natural environment of Zvezdara Forest. History Origin (1887–1891) In 1879, Milan Nedeljković (1857–1950) received a scholarship to continue his education in Paris at the Sorbonne. He studied mathematics and at the College de France extraordinary studying physics. In Paris Observatory was formed the first School of Astronomy, which Nedeljkovic successfully completed. During the study he also finished courses in meteorology, precision mechanics and seismology. After five years of study in Paris, he returned in 1884 in Belgrade where he became a professor of astronomy and meteorology at the Grand School (University of Belgrade). Robotic Telescope
A robotic telescope is an astronomical telescope and detector system that makes observations without the intervention of a human. In astronomical disciplines, a telescope qualifies as robotic if it makes those observations without being operated by a human, even if a human has to initiate the observations at the beginning of the night or end them in the morning. It may have software agents using artificial intelligence that assist in various ways such as automatic scheduling. A robotic telescope is distinct from a remote telescope, though an instrument can be both robotic and remote. Prokuplje
Prokuplje ( sr-cyrl, Прокупље, ) is a city and the administrative center of the Toplica District in southern Serbia. According to 2011 census, the city urban area has a population of 27,333 inhabitants, while the administrative area has 44,419 inhabitants. Prokuplje is one of the Roman sites of Serbia. The town was known as Ürgüp during Ottoman rule and was incorporated into the Kingdom of Serbia in 1878. Light pollution is the presence of unwanted, inappropriate, or excessive use of artificial Visible spectrum, lighting. Cassegrain Telescope
The Cassegrain reflector is a combination of a primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror, often used in optical telescopes and radio antennas, the main characteristic being that the optical path folds back onto itself, relative to the optical system's primary mirror entrance aperture. This design puts the focal point at a convenient location behind the primary mirror and the convex secondary adds a telephoto effect creating a much longer focal length in a mechanically short system. In a symmetrical Cassegrain both mirrors are aligned about the optical axis, and the primary mirror usually contains a hole in the center, thus permitting the light to reach an eyepiece, a camera, or an image sensor. Alternatively, as in many radio telescopes, the final focus may be in front of the primary. Milan Nedeljković
Milan G. Nedeljković (Belgrade, Principality of Serbia, 9 September 1857 - Belgrade, Yugoslavia, 21 February 1950) was the first modern professor of astronomy and meteorology at the ''Grandes écoles'', and the founder and first director of the Astronomical and Meteorological Observatory in Belgrade. Biography He was born in ''Kraljice Natalije'', then ''Abadžijska Street'' in Belgrade, as the first of eight children (Milan, Đorđe, Nikola, Emilian, Vojislav, Ljubomir, Kosara and Spasenija) of the wealthy ''abadžija'' (tailor) Gligorije Nedeljković and mother Aleksandra.
