Video Game Remake
A video game remake is a video game closely adapted from an earlier title, usually for the purpose of modernizing a game with updated graphics for newer hardware and gameplay for contemporary audiences. Typically, a remake of such game software shares essentially the same title, fundamental gameplay concepts, and core story elements of the original game, although some aspects of the original game may have been changed for the remake. Remakes are often made by the original developer or copyright holder, and sometimes by the fan community. If created by the community, video game remakes are sometimes also called fangames and can be seen as part of the retro gaming phenomenon. Definition A remake offers a newer interpretation of an older work, characterized by updated or changed assets. For example, '' The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D'' and '' The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D'' for the Nintendo 3DS are considered remakes of their original versions for the Nintendo 64, an ...

Sonic The Hedgehog (8-bit Video Game)
is a 1991 side-scrolling platform game. It is a companion to the 16-bit Sega Genesis game ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' for the 8-bit Game Gear and Master System consoles. Ancient—a studio founded by composer Yuzo Koshiro for the project—developed the game and Sega published it to promote the handheld Game Gear. The 8-bit ''Sonic'' is a side-scrolling video game similar in style to the 16-bit game, but reduced in complexity to fit the 8-bit systems. The premise and story of the 8-bit ''Sonic'' are identical to that of the 16-bit game: as the anthropomorphic hedgehog Sonic, the player races through levels to rescue the imprisoned animals Doctor Robotnik plots to turn into robots. Gameplay is similar; Sonic collects rings while avoiding obstacles, but is paced slightly slower as the 8-bit version focuses more on exploration. While some level themes, such as Green Hill Zone, are borrowed from the 16-bit game, others are original. It also features a different soundtrack from Koshiro ...

Third Generation Of Video Game Consoles
In the history of video games, the third generation of game consoles, commonly referred to as the 8-bit era, began on July 15, 1983 with the Japanese release of two systems: Nintendo's Family Computer (commonly abbreviated to ''Famicom'') and Sega's SG-1000. When the Famicom was not released outside of Japan it was remodelled and marketed as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This generation marked the end of the video game crash of 1983, and a shift in the dominance of home video game manufacturers from the United States to Japan. Handheld consoles were not a major part of this generation; the Game & Watch line from Nintendo (which started in 1980) and the Milton Bradley Microvision (which came out in 1979) that were sold at the time are both considered part of the previous generation due to hardware typical of the second generation. Improvements in technology gave consoles of this generation improved graphical and sound capabilities, comparable to golden age arcade gam ...

Porting
In software engineering, porting is the process of adapting software for the purpose of achieving some form of execution in a computing environment that is different from the one that a given program (meant for such execution) was originally designed for (e.g., different CPU, operating system, or third party library). The term is also used when software/hardware is changed to make them usable in different environments. Software is ''portable'' when the cost of porting it to a new platform is significantly less than the cost of writing it from scratch. The lower the cost of porting software relative to its implementation cost, the more portable it is said to be. Etymology The term "port" is derived from the Latin '' portāre'', meaning "to carry". When code is not compatible with a particular operating system or architecture, the code must be "carried" to the new system. The term is not generally applied to the process of adapting software to run with less memory on the sam ...

Third-person Shooter
Third-person shooter (TPS) is a subgenre of 3D shooter games in which the gameplay consists primarily of shooting. It is closely related to first-person shooters, but with the player character visible on-screen during play. While 2D shoot 'em up games also employ a third-person perspective, the TPS genre is distinguished by having the game presented with the player's avatar as a primary focus of the camera's view. Definition A third-person shooter is a game structured around shooting,Nate Garrets, ''The Meaning and Culture of Grand Theft Auto: critical essays'' (McFarland, 2006)159 and in which the player can see the avatar on-screen in a third-person view.Anne-Marie Schreiner,Does Lara Croft Wear Fake Polygons? Tank Controls
Tank controls are a control system used in Video game, video games whereby players control movement relative to the position of the player character, rather than the perspective of the Virtual camera system, game camera. Mechanism In a game with tank controls, pressing up (for example on a D-pad, analog stick, or Arrow keys, cursor movement keys) on the game controller moves the character in the direction they face, down reverses them, and left and right rotates them. This differs from many 3D games, in which characters move in the direction players push from the perspective of the Virtual camera system, camera. The term "tank controls" comes from the Tank steering systems, steering mechanisms of old tanks, which had to stop completely before turning. Tank controls were common in 3D games in the 1990s, such as ''Grim Fandango'' and the early ''Resident Evil'' and ''Tomb Raider'' games. Tank controls allow players to maintain a direction when the camera angle changes. ''Grim Fa ...

Half-Life (video Game)
''Half-Life'' is a 1998 first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Valve and published by Sierra Studios for Windows. It was Valve's debut product and the first game in the ''Half-Life'' series. Players assume the role of Gordon Freeman, a scientist who must escape the Black Mesa Research Facility after it is invaded by aliens. The gameplay consists of combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Unlike other games of the time, the player has almost uninterrupted control of the player character, and the story is told mostly in scripted sequences rather than cutscenes. Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said that the team was disappointed with the lack of innovation in the FPS genre, and aimed to create an immersive world rather than a "shooting gallery". Valve developed using GoldSrc, a heavily modified version of the ''Quake'' engine, licensed from id Software. The science fiction novelist Marc Laidlaw was hired to shape the story and assist with design. ''Half-Life'' received accl ...
