Video game localization (or computer game localisation), is the process of preparing a video game for a market outside of where it was originally published. The game's name, art assets, packaging, manuals, and cultural and legal differences are typically altered. Fan Translation Of Video Games
In video gaming, a fan translation is an unofficial translation of a video game made by fans. The fan translation practice grew with the rise of video game console emulation in the late 1990s. A community of people developed that were interested in replaying and modifying the games they played in their youth. The knowledge and tools that came out of this community allowed them to work with translators to localize video game titles that had never been available outside of their original country of origin. Fan translations of video game console games are usually accomplished by modifying a single binary ROM image of the game. ''Fable II'' is a 2008 action role-playing video game developed by Lionhead Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360. The ''Mother 3'' fan translation is a complete English-language game localization, localization of the 2006 Japanese video game ''Mother 3'' by members of the EarthBound fandom, ''EarthBound'' fan community led by Clyde "Tomato" Mandelin. The original game was released in Japan after a decade of development hell. When fan interest in an English localization went unanswered, members of the ''EarthBound'' fansite Starmen.net announced their own Fan translation of video games, fan translation in November 2006. The dozen fans who worked on the project had been vetted by Tomato and had prior localization experience. Fan labor, also called fan works, are the creative activities engaged in by fan (person), fans, primarily those of various media properties or musical groups.
