Vidar Benjaminsen
Vidar Benjaminsen (born 18 August 1962) is a Norwegian ski-orienteering competitor and world champion. He has received four gold medals, four silver medals and seven bronze medals at the World Ski Orienteering Championships, from 1986 to 1996. He won the overall World Cup in Ski Orienteering in 1989 and 1993. After retiring from elite ski-orienteering, he has been an active organizer of events as well as promoter of the sports of orienteering and ski-orienteering. Ski-orienteering
Ski orienteering (SkiO) is a cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skiing endurance Winter sport, winter racing sport and one of the four orienteering disciplines Sport governing body, recognized by the International Orienteering Federation, IOF. A successful ski orienteer combines high physical endurance, strength and excellent technical skiing skills with the ability to navigate and make the best route choices while skiing at a high speed. Standard orienteering maps are commonly used, but since 2019, a separate mapping standard ISSkiOM has been produced which recommends a subset of the symbols used in other disciplines. Ski-orienteering maps uses green symbols to indicate trails and tracks and different symbols to indicate their navigability in snow; other symbols indicate whether any roads are snow-covered or clear. Lillomarka Orienteering Team
Lillomarka is an area located to the northeast of Oslo, Norway. It is a part of Oslomarka and serves as a popular recreational area. Lillomarka is bordered by Maridalen and Nordmarka in the west, Nittedal and Gjelleråsen in the east, the suburbs Bjerke and Grorud in the south and the Gjøvik rail line and Movatn in the north. The name The first element is the name of the farm ''Lillo'' (see Storo), the last element is the finite form of ''mark'' f 'woodland, forest'. History Lillomarka contains the old Gothalfske copper mines, Alnsjø lake (one of Oslo’s sources of drinking water), and Breisjø lake. Several of the lakes in Lillomarka were used for harvesting ice; the ice dam at Årvoll and Vesletjern (Lilletjern) at Ammerud were both important sources of ice for the people of Oslo. Juni Marie Benjaminsen (born 21 March 1999) is a Norwegian former competitive figure skater. In 2015, she became the first Norwegian ladies' skater in 16 years to advance to the free skate at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, World Junior Championships. Andrine Benjaminsen (born 23 August 1995) is a Norwegian Orienteering, orienteer and ski orienteering, ski orienteer. Career Benjaminsen represented Norway at the 2017 World Orienteering Championships in Tartu, Estonia, where her best result was ninth place in the long distance. In ski orienteering, she won a bronze medal at the 2013 and 2015 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships, Junior World Championships. At the 2021 European Orienteering Championships she won a bronze medal in the Knock-out sprint, and a bronze medal in the Sprint relay with the Norwegian team. At the 2021 World Orienteering Championships in the Czech Republic, she placed 10th in the sprint. Anne Benjaminsen (; born 25 March 1964) is a Finnish ski-orienteering competitor and World Champion. She participated at the 1988 World Ski Orienteering Championships in Kuopio, and won a gold medal in the ''relay'' with the Finnish team, with the teammates Sirpa Kukkonen and Virpi Juutilainen. Orienteering
Orienteering is a group of sports that require navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Among these, the oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering. The World Ski Orienteering Championships (Ski-WOC) is the official event to award the titles of World Champions in ski orienteering. The World Championships is organized every odd year. The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) is the international governing body of the sport of orienteering. The IOF head office is located in Karlstad, Sweden. The IOF governs four orienteering disciplines: foot orienteering, mountain bike orienteering, ski orienteering, and trail orienteering.
