Vidadi Babanli
Vidadi Yusif oglu Babanli ( az, Babanlı Yusif oğlu Vidadi, born 5 January 1927 in Qazakh Rayon, Qazakh) is an Azerbaijani writer, dramatist, translator and Merited Artist of Azerbaijan. Life Babanli was born in Shikhly village of Qazakh Rayon which is now renamed to Muğanlı, Agstafa, Mughanly and is under administration of Agstafa Rayon. His father Yusif Babanli was a history teacher and school headmaster. After he completed school in the village, he went to Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University in Baku in 1944 and completed his degree in 1949. He then worked at a local school in Sabirabad Rayon, Sabirabad but soon returned to Baku to work at Azerbaycan muellimi (Azerbaijani Teacher) magazine. Even though he entered doctoral studies department and went to study at Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow, he had to return to Azerbaijan soon due to his health problems. Qazax (; ) is a city in and the capital of the Gazakh District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 20,900. The Union of Azerbaijani Writers ( az, Azərbaycan Yazıçılar Birliyi) is the largest public organization of Azerbaijani writers, poets and publicists. It has over 1500 members at present. It was founded on June 13, 1934, when Azerbaijan was a part of the Soviet Union as the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. History Prior to 1934, Azerbaijani writers grouped in variety of literary unions. In 1923, a group of writers formed the "İldırım" United Organization of Turkic Publicists and Poets. Later, in 1925, another organization known as "Qızıl qələmlər" (''Golden Pens'') was established uniting most writers and regularly conducting literary gathering events. The Union of Azerbaijani Writers was established on June 13, 1934. There were 93 members upon its registration. With its establishment, the organization also started publication of "Ədəbiyyat qəzeti" (Literature) newspaper. Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni (973 – after 1050) commonly known as al-Biruni, was a Khwarazmian Iranian in scholar and polymath during the Islamic Golden Age. He has been called variously the "founder of Indology", "Father of Comparative Religion", "Father of modern geodesy", and the first anthropologist. Al-Biruni was well versed in physics, mathematics, astronomy, and natural sciences, and also distinguished himself as a historian, chronologist, and linguist.
