Victoria Redel
Victoria Redel (born 1959) is an American poet and fiction writer who lives in New York City. She is the author of five books of fiction: ''Before Everything'', ''Make Me Do Things'', ''The Border of Truth'', ''Loverboy'' and ''Where the Road Bottoms Out'' and four books of poetry: 'Paradise,'Woman Without Umbrella'', ''Swoon'', and ''Already the World''. She has taught at Columbia University, Vermont College and is currently on the faculty of Sarah Lawrence College. She has two sons. Awards and honors Redel has received awards in fiction and poetry including fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, thFine Arts Work Center She won thand the S. Mariela Gable Award for ''Loverboy''. ''Swoon'' was a finalist for the James Laughlin Award. Her novel ''Loverboy'' was a Los Angeles Best Book. A poet is a person who studies and creates poetry. Poets may describe themselves as such or be described as such by others. A poet may simply be the creator (thought, thinker, songwriter, writer, or author) who creates (composes) poems (oral tradition, oral or literature, written), or they may also performance, perform their art to an audience. The work of a poet is essentially one of communication, expressing ideas either in a literal sense (such as communicating about a specific event or place) or metaphorically. Poets have existed since prehistory, in nearly all languages, and have produced works that vary greatly in different cultures and periods. Throughout each civilization and language, poets have used various styles that have changed over time, resulting in countless poets as diverse as the literature that (since the advent of writing systems) they have produced.
