Victoria Recreation Ground, Barnet
Victoria Recreation Ground is a public park in New Barnet in the London Borough of Barnet, United Kingdom. It is one of Barnet's 'Premier Parks'. It is mainly grassed with a children's playground, football pitches, tennis and basketball courts, a bowling green and a car park. There are flower beds which are the remains of a formal flower garden. The park is a roughly square area laid out in the late nineteenth century on land previously known as 'Mrs Cook's Farm', and Barnet F.C., Barnet Football Club played there in the 1889–90 season. The Shirebourne brook, Shirebourne brook runs along the south side of the park and the Pymmes Brook Trail passes north–south through the park. There is access from Park Road, Victoria Road, Lawton Road, and by a footpath and footbridge from Cromer Road. New Barnet
New Barnet is a neighbourhood on the north east side of the London Borough of Barnet. It is a largely residential North London suburb located east of Chipping Barnet, west of Cockfosters, south of the village of Monken Hadley and north of Oakleigh Park. Residential properties include a mix of late Victorian villas and terraces, Edwardian detached housing, 1950-60s council housing and the redevelopment of land to low storey flats in the 1980s and 1990s. The north edge of New Barnet borders Monken Hadley Common, a common mostly made up of woods and cut by walking paths. Victoria Recreation Ground
Victoria Recreation Ground is a park located on Recreation Ground Road, just off Carisbrooke Road, in Newport, on the Isle of Wight, England. It was opened in 1902. The park comprises a cricket pitch, tennis courts, petanque terrain, pavilion and a sports hall. It operates as Newport Victoria Sports and Social Club, formed in 1983 by the amalgamation of the Newport Cricket Club, IW Hockey Club, Newport Victoria Sports Club (Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis) and the IW Ladies' Hockey Club. At that time, the Medina Borough Council gave a grant of £17,500 to upgrade the facilities at the recreation ground. This was received by Mr Roy Kinner, the chairman of the newly formed Newport Victoria Sports and Social Club, together with a grant of £2,000 from the National Sports Council. Shirebourne Brook
The Shirebourne is a brook that rises in King George's Fields (Monken Hadley), King George's Fields, Hadley, and eventually joins the Pymmes Brook. It may have marked the historic county boundary between Hertfordshire and Middlesex. Location The Shirebourne rises in King George's Fields, Hadley. It is culverted between the eastern side of the Fields at Bosworth Road until it emerges overground at the south-west corner of the Victoria Recreation Ground, New Barnet, Victoria Recreation Ground in New Barnet. There it flows along the southern side of the park, and under Park Road, after which it joins the Pymmes Brook. In history The brook may originally have been named Scirbrunan in old English which translates as "shirebourn" meaning "county stream". Pymmes Brook Trail
The Pymmes Brook Trail is located in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and is just under long. The brook is named after William Pymme, a local landowner. The trail goes from Hadley Green to Tottenham Hale, where the trail connects with the Lea Valley Walk. Most of the first half of the trail, as far as Arnos Park, runs beside Pymmes Brook, but after that the brook is only encountered intermittently as much of the brook passes through private land which is not open to the public. In its lower reaches sections of the brook have been culverted to alleviate the risk of flooding. Course The trail starts on Hadley Green, where the headwaters of Pymmes Brook rise, with a link from High Barnet tube station.
