Victoria P. Kornfield is an American schoolteacher and politician from Maine. A Democrat from Bangor, Kornfield represented District 125 of the Maine House of Representatives, which encompassed part of Bangor of Penobscot County. The Maine Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Maine. After the Civil War, Democrats were a minor player in a political scene dominated by the Republican Party. However, during the 1950s, Edmund Muskie led an expansive political insurgency culminating in his election as Governor of Maine and successive Democratic elections to both state and national offices. From 2012 to 2019, despite having a Republican governor in Paul LePage, the party remained strong, holding key offices in the state government and the U.S. Congress and maintaining a majority in the Maine House of Representatives for six of LePage's eight years in office. Bangor, Maine
Bangor ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Maine and the county seat of Penobscot County. The city proper has a population of 31,753, making it the state's 3rd-largest settlement, behind Portland (68,408) and Lewiston (37,121). Modern Bangor was established in the mid-19th century with the lumber and shipbuilding industries. Lying on the Penobscot River, logs could be floated downstream from the Maine North Woods and processed at the city's water-powered sawmills, then shipped from Bangor's port to the Atlantic Ocean downstream, and from there to any port in the world. The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Joe Baldacci
Joe Baldacci (born February 21, 1965) is an American attorney and Democratic politician from Maine. Baldacci serves in the Maine Senate representing District 9, serving Bangor and Hermon. He grew up in Bangor and attended the University of Maine and the University of Maine School of Law. Following law school, Baldacci returned to Bangor and opened a law practice, serving on the Bangor City Council beginning in 1996. Baldacci served 12 years on the Council, including two terms as chair/mayor, before being elected to the Maine Senate in 2020. He also made a brief run for Maine's 2nd congressional district seat in 2016 but dropped out before the Democratic primary in June.
