Victoria Hotspurs Football Club is a Maltese football club from the town of Victoria, Gozo. Founded in 1948, the club has won a record of 13 First Division titles, the last one being in the 2018–19 season. The Club is popularly known by the Gozitans simply as il-Hotspurs, which when translated to English literally means The Hotspurs. In 2000, when they won their tenth title, they became the first club to be awarded a '' Golden Star for Sport Excellence''. Moreover, Victoria Hotspurs also became the first - and so far the only - club competing in the Gozo Football League who had a Gozitan player from their ranks debuting and representing Malta in international football matches. Gozo Football League Second Division
The Gozo Football League Second Division, known as BOV GFL Second Division for sponsorship reasons, is the second and lowest level in the Gozo Football League. The league was first competed in 1948. The Second Division is played in the same manner as the First Division: based on three rounds, each club plays three games against every other team for a total of 15 games. The season is usually held between September and April, and at the end of the season, the champion is automatically promoted to next season's First Division season and replaces the bottom-placed club from the First Division. The second-placed club plays a promotion and relegation play-off against the seventh-placed team in the First Division, with the winner earning the right to play in the top tier the following season. Gozo (, ), Maltese: ''Għawdex'' () and in antiquity known as Gaulos ( xpu, 𐤂𐤅𐤋, ; grc, Γαῦλος, Gaúlos), is an island in the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The Freedom Day Cup is a football competition that takes place in Gozo. The cup holders are S.K. Victoria Wanderers FC who won the cup after beating Sannat Lions in the 2009 final. This competition is just a final between two teams and it takes place on Freedom Day, that is March 31. The first Freedom Day Cup took place in the season 1978–1979, that is the same year that Malta gained its freedom. The Second Division Knock-Out is a football competition that takes place in Gozo. It is organized by Gozo Football Association. The cup holders are Xagħra United which won the cup after beating after extra time Żebbuġ Rovers in the final held on April 14, 2023. GFA Cup
The GFA Cup, currently known as the BOV GFA Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knockout football cup competition in Gozo, run by and named after the Gozo Football Association. The competition is played between the clubs of the Gozitan First Division and Second Division. The usual format adopted is that all teams from the Second Division and the teams ranked third to seventh in the previous First Division participate in the preliminary round. The six winning teams make it to the quarter finals together with the remaining top two teams from the First Division. The current cup holders are Nadur Youngsters who won 6–0 against Għajnsielem in the 2023 final, winning their tenth GFA Cup. Independence Cup (Malta)
The Independence Cup was a football competition that took place in Gozo, Malta. The cup holders in 2010 were Victoria Hotspurs who won the cup after beating Sannat Lions 7–0 in the 2009 final at the newly refurbished Sannat Ground. This competition was played on a knock-out basis between the clubs of the First Division. The first Independence Cup took place in the season 1964–1965 — that is the same year that Malta gained its independence. Generally the final was held on the Independence Day – that is 21 September. Format Six teams of the First Division were chosen by lot to participate in the preliminary round.
