Victor Șelin (born 19 August 1965) is a Moldovan businessman, politician, and former journalist, currently president of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova. Education and early career Șelin is a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism of the State University of Moldova. He worked as editor at " Teleradio-Moldova" until 1989, when he left journalism, entering the business. He remained present in the field of journalism through the Russian newspaper "Vremea", which he is patronizing. He is the owner of the Moldovan cinema network "Patria", which is а monopolist in Moldova. The Social Democratic Party (, PSD) is an extra-parliamentary List of political parties in Moldova, political party in Moldova currently led by Victor Șelin. Serafim Urechean (born 2 February 1950) is a Moldovan politician. He held the position of general mayor of Chișinău municipality (1994–2005) and interim prime minister of the Republic of Moldova (5 – 17 February 1999). Vasile Tarlev (born 6 October 1963) is a Moldovan politician who served as the 6th Prime Minister of Moldova from 2001 to 2008. Dumitru Braghiș (; born 28 December 1957) is a Moldovan politician, diplomat and economist. He is the current Moldovan Ambassador to China and Vietnam, appointed in mid-2020. April 2009 Moldovan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on 5 April 2009. The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) won a majority of seats (60 out of 101) for the third consecutive occasion. Turnout was 59%, exceeding the 50% necessary for the election to be valid. Following the elections, Parliament was required to elect a new President of Moldova as the incumbent Vladimir Voronin had to stand down after completing two terms. Presidential elections required the winning candidate to receive at least 61 votes, but the opposition parties refused to vote for the three PCRM-nominated candidates in Moldovan presidential election, May–June 2009, three rounds of voting between May and June 2009, meaning no president was elected.
