Victor Eftimiu
Victor Eftimiu (; 24 January 1889 – 27 November 1972) was a Romanian poet and playwright. He was a contributor to ''Sburătorul'', a Romanian literary magazine. His works have been performed in the State Jewish Theater of Romania. Eftimiu was of Albanian origin, but also had Aromanian descent through his father Gheorghe Eftimiu, a merchant. Eftimiu's mother was Maria Eftimiu, née Cociu. Victor Eftimiu was born in Boboshticë near Korçë. In 1905, he emigrated from Albania to Romania, where he found work as a theatre manager in 1913. He published several books of poetry, and wrote comedies and satirical pieces for the theatre. He also wrote a volume of Romanian fairy tales, and several children's books. He wrote also criticisms and articles for numerous magazines. He died in 1972 and was buried at Bellu Cemetery. Eftimiu lived in a house next to the Cișmigiu Gardens, in central Bucharest. Boboshticë
Boboshticë ( rup, Bubushtitsa; bg, Бобощица, ''Boboshtitsa''; mk, Бобоштица, ''Boboštica'') is a village in the former Drenovë Municipality of the Korçë County in southeastern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Korçë. Name The name of the village is a Slavic toponym, recognizable with the Slavic suffix ''ice''. History According to legend, the village was founded by Polish settlers left behind after a Crusade. It is believed that the local church of Saint John the Forerunner was most probably built in the 13th century and it was rebuilt and expanded later. In 1503 a new church in the monastery St. Nicholas near to the village was built on whose western wall, in a Greek language inscription the slavic names of donors were mentioned - Bogdan, Chelko, Valcho and Telche, and the paintings were a donation of Petros Chartophylax. Cișmigiu Gardens
The Cișmigiu Gardens or Cișmigiu Park ( ro, Grădinile Cișmigiu or Parcul Cișmigiu, links=) are a public park in the center of Bucharest, Romania, spanning areas on all sides of an artificial lake. The gardens' creation was an important moment in the history of Bucharest. They form the oldest and, at , the largest park in city's central area. The main entrance is from Elisabeta Boulevard, in front of the General City Hall of Bucharest; there is another major entrance at the Știrbei Vodă Street, near the Crețulescu Palace. The southwestern corner of the park is adjacent to the prestigious Gheorghe Lazăr National College. The park attracts an average of 5,100 visitors on a weekend day. Paula Mitrache (born 14 June 1977), known by the stage name Haiducii (), is a Romanian-Italian singer, model and actress. She released her debut single "Dragostea din tei" in 2004, a cover of O-Zone's homonymous single of the previous year. A copyright infringement lawsuit followed on the matter and resulted in Haiducii paying fees for this confirmed charge. Commercially, "Dragostea din tei" reached widespread commercial success, reaching number 1 in Austria, Italy, Portugal and Sweden, as well as the top ten in eight other countries. It was also certified Gold and Platinum in several territories. The omul, ''Coregonus migratorius'', also known as Baikal omul (russian: байкальский омуль), is a whitefish species of the salmon family endemic to Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. It is considered a delicacy and is the object of one of the largest commercial fisheries on Lake Baikal. In 2004, it was listed in Russia as an endangered species. Taxonomy The omul has traditionally been regarded as a subspecies of the Arctic cisco ''Coregonus autumnalis''. However, recent genetic studies have shown it actually belongs to the circumpolar ''Coregonus lavaretus- clupeaformis'' complex of lake whitefishes, which also has other members in Lake Baikal, and it is now considered its own species within ''Coregonus''. Meșterul Manole (play)
In Romanian mythology, Meșterul Manole (roughly: ''The master builder Manole'') was the chief architect of the Curtea de Argeș Monastery in Wallachia. The myth of the cathedral's construction is expressed in the folk poem ''Monastirea Argeșului'' ("The Monastery on the Argeș River"). In the poem, Manole finds it impossible to build the monastery without a human sacrifice and, despite his efforts, is forced to sacrifice his own pregnant wife by encasing her in the walls of the building. Written in the style of a folk ballad, the poem is often seen as an example of an "aesthetic myth" in folkloric literature, having at its core the belief that nothing durable and unique can be built without the creator's self-sacrifice. Pitești () is a city in Romania, located on the river Argeș.
