Victor Capron
Dr. Victor James Capron Sr (August 25, 1868 - November 16, 1934) was a physician and politician in the state of Washington. He was born in Boonville, Oneida County, New York; a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1888; a resident physician at St. Luke's Hospital in South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and a surgeon at the Norwegian Deaconess Home and Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. In 1893, he became government physician in Kau, Hawaii, where he was credited with containing a cholera epidemic. In 1898, he became the town doctor at Roche Harbor, Washington. He opened a hospital in Friday Harbor; established the island's first telephone system (1901) so he could better respond to medical needs in Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor; invented an X-ray machine powered by his vehicle so he could assess injuries on site; and invested in agricultural enterprises. Friday Harbor, Washington
Friday Harbor is a town in San Juan County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,162 at 2010 census. Located on San Juan Island, Friday Harbor is the major commercial center of the San Juan Islands archipelago and is the county seat of San Juan County. History In 1845 the Hudson's Bay Company laid claim to San Juan Island. In 1850 they built a salmon curing station. A few years later they started a sheep farm. The town's name originates from Joseph Poalie Friday, a native Hawaiian. Friday worked at the Pugets Sound Agricultural Company's Fort Cowlitz, from 1841 to 1859–60 and later moved north to San Juan Island, raising and herding sheep around the harbor. Peter Kirk (February 15, 1840 – May 4, 1916) was a United Kingdom, British-born United States, American businessman who founded the Kirkland, Washington, City of Kirkland in King County, Washington, United States. The town is named in his honor. Kirk was born in Townend, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England. He founded Kirkland initially as a steelworkers' town. Peter wanted Kirkland to become the "Pittsburgh of the West" through his Great Western Iron and Steel Company. He died during his sleep in Friday Harbor, Washington.
